We've already developed our own master server, and it's running quite nicely, replacing the services that GameSpy hosted. FH2 contacted us and they will be using our servers as well, so they're fine too. After a bit of testing has occurred, this will be going out with v1.2, which will obviously be released before this shutdown occurs.

 

For you regular player folk, the only thing you'll notice about the whole situation is when updating to 1.2, you'll get a message box saying some stuff, your profiles will be deleted, and you'll be prompted to make a new profile. Their work on the gamespy shutdown is the same that will nullify this shutdown.

I never got the last Medic rifle, the G36C I think? I envied everyone with that OP rifle while I ran around with my P90. And now I shall never taste the fruits of its OP labor.

1942 was my first, loooooved bf2, ah the memories. Think i unlocked most weapons for the sake of

gameplay variety after the 1000th hour , but played mostly as sniper or spec ops until then. good times

Imagine if BF5 was a return to BF2 style gameplay (classes, vehicle balance, factions etc) but with updated graphics, destructibles etc.

with any luck, the battlefield franchise might revisit ww2 scene, since the whole modern battle duty advanced warfare thing is getting a little tedious

Have no fear though! Ever since the original announcement from GameSpy, the Project Reality Team has been hard at work on developing our own solution to keep Project Reality: BF2 online, and our players playing. In partnership with the Forgotten Hope 2 team, we have quickly developed our own custom master server, and I am happy to confirm that Project Reality: BF2 (and Forgotten Hope 2) will continue to be playable online after the GameSpy shutdown.
