My contract with TPG ends in a couple of weeks, thinking about binning them and going with a new provider.

What's the best ISP out there?

I want low ping (something TPG has been screwing me over with. 400 ping to CIA *** off)

Decent download speeds and a reasonable amount of downloads for downloading completely legal software and movies off various un-disclosed websites.

Contrary to what numerous speed and line quality tests I have done I've never downloaded at speeds greater than 1.5mbs and on average it's probably more like 550kbs.

 

Also, is naked DSL, better in anyway?

 

I hear iiNet are good. Apart from the hobbit they use on their ads.

On Steam I generally get 10Mb/s - 15Mb/s, and torrents usually go up to 6Mb/s - 9Mb/s.

 

 

 

Just Google or call them up and see if you can get this package/net in your area

Ehhh no isp is anygood where i live.. Get **** speeds no matter what.

 

Try using the whirlpool thing where you put in your phone number or address and it tells you all the plans, speed, price etc

I always recommend internode. Not necessarily the cheapest but they are well worth it in terms of customer service. I view technical/connection issues as being inevitable and when you have to get your ISP to do something it pays to have them actually care about fixing the problem.

Telstra is pretty good for reliability/speed in terms of internet, billing and customer service can sometimes be problematic.

+1 for iinet (I'm with Westnet, and I get something called customer service).

 

+1 also for the Whirlpool gadget.

I have a naked plan cause I don't want a land line phone.

 

Can also go to "my internode" site and change my ADSL2+ profiles,from very high speed to low latency & can be changed in 1 hr.

 

I choose to get my invoices by e-mail & pay by direct debit don't have to do a thing.

Generally, if they have a DSLAM in your exchange in order of gaming goodness. Are you on a RIM ? if so your screwed.

 

Tier 1 Internode. iinet. Westnet.

Tier 2 Bigpond. Optus.

Tier 3 Dodo, TPG

 

If you can, go with Internode !

They have the best national and international network for gaming with lowping and minimal ping jitter.

 

A naked DSL connection will be slightly (around $10 pm) cheaper than a normal landline with adsl attached. However getting a naked line fixed if there are issues with it is problematic as Telstra dont play fair.

Naked will only be available with some ISPs and only if they have a DSLAM in your exchange.

 

Have you checked if NBN is available in your area yet or soon ?
