Initially, Project Reality 2 will be a small scale,

but...

Project Reality 2 (or simply "PR2") will be a free to play multiplayer FPS PC game,

Where to mate' It's been a while...
...cutwrists oh well you gotta start somewhere

So it'll be as big as the largest BF2 maps used to be, and the smallest maps for PR like Ghost train, Fullujah and Asad Khal, which ain't that bad for the initial release. I'd be more worried about the amount of vehicles that'll be available.

Anyway glad to see a few maps pics rather than models and such which they had for a while. Looking forward to a few more bits and pieces on the new title. :D

Time to rise to the occasion

Sahhh coooool :D :D :fans:

They should do a kickstarter type thing (but not on kickstarter), the devs definitely deserve some reward for their hardwork and time :)

the map i am currently making and modeling for:

p.s. overall size is 16km^2 while the explorable area of the map

will be smaller. still the shortest connection between two points

_can_ be greater than 8-12km (not air-distance!) !

p.p.s. added the locations of the screenshots and downsized the picture a bit :)

Epic looking indeed

to all those kind people saying "you guys should get paid / start kickstarter etc." :

- first of all thank you in the name of the complete pr2-dev-team !

- even if we wanted to go on kickstarter we would need a far more advanced state of pr2.

additionally we would still need investors to help out tho if you got interest in investing in pr2, twistedhelix would be the person to adress the information directly.

cheers

Hey guys,

I thought i should probably check in here, seen as this is where i spend my PR nights.

Project Reality 2 as is said in the announcement, we are only doing the initial release as a small infantry style which will provide us a solid foundation going forward to our first public release.

For kickstarter and Steam, well this is something in my opinion was always something that i think PR2 would do really well with, probably even tackle star citizens amazing crowdfunding efforts. But in realistic terms the game has always been a community game and we felt that it would be better to keep it a free to play game, *There wont be any microtransactions* I wouldnt rule out going down the kickstarter / steam path either, it is been discussed but we have alot more other things that are on the cards first.

In terms of vehicles in PR2 we are aiming at having a massive arsenal worth of vehicles including aircraft. We havent quite got around to working out what vehicles we will include first but the worlds petrolheads will be very happy :)

I personally will keep the community up to date on latest developments for PR2.

Thanks for the info Foxhound.

Just one question, what programs are required for modelling/doing textures for the cryengine? I wouldn't even mind trying a map out but I'm not sure where to start or even if my computer could handle it.

[WC]Xavo|xXx:

sure man, well you can download Cryengine from the crydev website.

www . cry dev.net

3d modelling programs well this is a matter of what you feel comfortable with

3ds max, zbrush, maya etc.

Cool thanks for clarifying.

Once I knock over a few of these assignments I'll have a look at some things.

Honestly, if you guys do a good job of this, I would rather play it than A3.

Where to mate' It's been a while...
Of course we will do a good job of this we will go a step further and will an awesome job of this. But we have a long way to go before we can start blowing our own trumpets. And that first step is to get an internal alpha .1 done and tested.

I always wondered about your tags foxhound, it was like [R2-Dev] or something, it all makes sense!

For kickstarter and Steam, well this is something in my opinion was always something that i think PR2 would do really well with, probably even tackle star citizens amazing crowdfunding efforts.

Are you allowed to use cryengine for free if you use crowdfunding? I'd doubt it..

having everyone work full time on it quitting their day jobs would create massive amounts of stress for everyone. I think the devs are basically spread across the world, no way of actually getting together and working in person.

Plus managing finances could make or break the whole thing, who gets paid what, what if the combined finances of what each member was making before quitting their real job, couldn't add up to what kickstarter raised?

kind of agree with that quote

Yep, exactly what R2-DEV meant :D

Without going into details about it, put simply no you cant, there are a few options that are available to us, but right now we arent really looking at either of them, the focus is the internal alpha, then we go from there :D

Yeah, that quote is spot on, Its one of the reasons why the management team havent brought money into the development, I mean hell if Crytek goes guys we will support you 100%, then hey we cant really refuse that offer, but it hasnt happened so we just have to do our best with what we have now.

D_Fens1 - I dunno mate - I've watched footage of ARMA and was more impressed at the realism...

Am I missing something?

Still excited about the prospects of the game...

Yeah Arma looks great but I find it rather clunky. I bought Arma for PR Arma but hardly anyone played it :( Arma is more of a simulation whereas PR2 will be fps with realism. Can't wait for pr2 but will be keeping my eye open for PR:Arma3 also.
D_Fens1 - I hope to c u in game tonight mate - we're way overdue...
