Well, not a headset, but I just bought these: http://www.harveynorman.com.au/philips-citiscape-downtown-headphones-grey.html. I find even the best gaming headsets sore on the ears :(

I then just use a separate cheapy desk mic I got from MSY.

Edit: Oh and if you sign-up for HN newsletter you get a $5 voucher, bringing it down to $31 :)

yeah i am thinking of getting a cheap desktop mic but i really have no money (spent it pre-ordering BF4 and getting simcity 5-Worst choice ever!) so i can't talk for a little while in game.

Last 2 times my good ones broke ( both times by the minions :() I glued them back together.

Steps..

Carefully sand area that you are repairing with coarse sandpaper WITHOUT damaging the wires that you may have had to do some precision soldering on..

Prepare your glue to tack the break together, I use industrial strength "Mega-Poxy" ..with a 3 min set time but a fast setting Aradite will do the same thing.. just takes longer to set.

Now find somewhere comfortable to sit while you apply the glue, just glue the actual break atm.. now hold it together while you wait for the glue to set.

DO NOT MOVE TILL IT SETS.

Once its holding together then mix up some more glue, use some with some talcum powder to make a thick paste ( make it thick so it holds its shape..ie doesn't run) then use the rest to wet out some strips of thin glass cloth, wrap them around the break over the paste, use something with a thin edge to push the air between the paste and the cloth out and smooth the repair out .

Allow to cure, then sand any jagged bits off so you don't stab yourself in the head or hand everytime you put them on.

Cost = Nothing if you already have the glue, the Glass cloth and a piece of sandpaper ;).

Mine broke with the wires so i don't know how to fix that

Yeah thats the tricky part..Like I said it involves some precision soldering... if its just a 2 core wire its reasonably simple but if its the single main wire with insulating paper layer and then the mesh type outer layer you can solder the main wire then use some tinfoil ( NOT AL Foil..) to connect the outer layer and just tape the sucker back up. :).

The headset in my pic , TDK somethings... was like $69 iirc, 2 and a bit years ago...so yeah Mandatory.. its had some use but if I can fix it myself why blow perfectly good beer money on a new set ? . ;).

I picked up a $19 headset for the minions to use a month or so ago, "Plantronics" ... cheap, they work alright and reasonably solid/they haven't broken them yet.
