Report: Source Says The Division's 2015 Release Date Is "Optimistic"

A source has told Gamereactor that Ubisoft's The Division has a long way to go, and that the game was pushed to avoid "[doing] a Battlefield 4."

In the report, an unnamed source told Gamereactor that "The Division is without a doubt one of the most ambitious game projects of all time and our publisher has naturally realised this. We've been given increased resources, we're hiring lots at the moment and are given a lot of help from other Ubisoft teams which is going to be needed if we are to deliver a finished game by next fall. Sadly I still think that the date is a tad bit optimistic as we still don't have a functioning game and still have massive problems making our multiplayer component work at the concept stage. At the same time both we and our publisher are incredibly happy with our game engine and Ubisoft will naturally make use of it in lots of upcoming titles."

The source also said that EA and DICE's post-launch struggles with Battlefield 4 is one of the factors that led to the game being pushed back. He also said that – contrary to rumors – the studio has not changed the game's lead platform from PS4 to Xbox One: "PlayStation 4 is the more powerful hardware and we feel it is easier to develop for. Snowdrop [the game's engine – Ed.] works better on PS4 and even if Microsoft do want us to shift lead platform that's not something that has happened."

I had to giggle at the 'avoid doing a Battlefiel 4' comment...

Also see a demo of the Snowdrop engine this game is being developed on + plus the video of ingame footage. This game looks to have real potential to be great.

I'll wait for a few of you guys to give a verdict before I splurge out and give Ubisoft any more of my money. The beta was fun up to a point, but there are forums posts around that tell a story of heavily reduced content for the beta... but you never can tell with those cunning bastards.

I played it and it was very enjoyable. 2nd open beta, alot spawns on extractiions.

I believe Devs mentioned on stream will be Roaming prisoners in the full release and also AI that respond to gunfire and go to your location.

Yeah, but why isn't that in the first release? Loot trading as a roadmap within DLCs? Give me a break.

I get the feeling with this game that they created everything and then sliced off modular parts and packaged them as DLCs. It's like, "Here's your new La Ferrari, Sir, and our delivery schedule on the seats, fuel tank, instruments and brakes. They'll be very exiting additions throughout the year for you!"

That said, it does make me want to buy it more now. Bastards.

It's all free dlc except 2 gamemodes and underground map :p and i'm fairly sure loot trading will be one of the first updates man
