NORTH Korea has announced it has entered a "state of war'' with South Korea and will deal with every inter-Korean issue accordingly.

"As of now, inter-Korea relations enter a state of war and all matters between the two Koreas will be handled according to wartime protocol," the North said in a joint statement attributed to all government bodies and institutions on Saturday.

Is this all talk or are we about to take it up to the next level?

Hey - I have been watching this issue very closely.

It's a worry.

<admin>We have to be careful to avoid political discussions which

I am certain this has a high likelihood of becoming. The

forums here may not be the best place for the discussion

of this issue. I am sure we are all pretty much on the same page

in regard to DPRK but any responses here need to be carefully

thought out or the thread lock may fall.</admin>

^Admin message duly noted.

Snowman, I agree with Sandy. I think that we've become 'complacent' in the last decade or so (complacent might not be the best word, but I'm meaning that we've just been brushing the issue off to the side because the higher powers sorta knew that Kim Jong Ill wouldn't do anything).

I think the scary part about this is that this new guy is much younger, so might be more eager to prove his worth or something. Plus this latest announcement comes just after they've ripped up the armistice.

I don't know how much of this current situation is media hype (both ours and theirs) and how much is an actual worry...

Hopefully that wasn't too political? I enjoy talking about stuff like this.

All a load of rubbish. There is no evidence anywhere to suggest NK is even semi capable of the attacks they're threatening.

If there was ever a remote chance they could strike than they would of been wiped ages ago, no two ways about it.

It's another weak muscle flex, similar to the shelling of that SK island a few years back.

The thing is, NK has for the last 50 years drilled it into their citizens the US and SK are the biggest and worst thing ever created. The second they become complacent and shift national interest else where, the population starts to question.

NK is a 3rd world country, once the majority of the population realize that, then the leaders will be in trouble.

Keep em' dumb, scared and poor and ultimately. Loyal.

This looks to have heated up in the last 48 hours, Australian government now looking at evacuating the Aussie in South Korea. US rushing assets into the area, this may not end well...

I'm not worried about my personal safety. I've got several friends in South Korea and Japan in various teaching roles or on holidays etc.
