Well looking at PRSPY it seems people can't be bothered to make the effort to seed our servers but are happy to head straight to US servers and hit auto deploy to get a spot on the only full PR server.

Unfortunately the US players do the same which means other servers sit empty .

There are 13 forum members on CIA atm and they are playing a map that several of them have stated they don't really like which means its not our rotation that is the problem.

In fact one of them actually made our current server #2 maplist.

Rather disappointing .

Sorry that I don't always want to sit in a firetruck empty server for 2 hours in the hope that some others decide that they may join and have a game.

Sorry that I've had a crap day at work and I would like to play a game with my friends (in the same squad, on the same team mind you) in a server with plenty of players, you know, its nice to have something to shoot at.

Sorry that you feel you need to point out particular players, groups, that to be quite honest have been trying for a long firetrucking time now to push for more players on our server.

 

So we went into the BigD server, we tried to seed, it was entertaining, but it was not fun.

Sorry for wanting to enjoy ourselves.

 

I've always not bothered to say anything, get involved in arguments on here (internet special olympics and all that), always tried to take the moral high ground and not say anything, but you know what, firetruck it, sometimes you just can't make people firetrucking happy.

Yes, this seems to be quite directed at you Bahlye, but its not only you, there is plenty of others in this community that can be included.

if this is the general feeling of the community then it answers the question of where the community is at and the future of the servers.

Darth, I'm all for supporting the community and the servers, don't get me wrong.

 

There is a lot of players on here that I enjoy playing with, I honestly prefer playing on the BigD servers as opposed to the US ones, not because of the ping, mainly because of the personalities and the way the game is played, and I'll be here on the weekend to play.

 

Playing this game is a stress release for me, after a frustrating day at work, hang out with friends. I get at most 2 hours to play of an evening, sorry that sometimes I sit down and see either no one, or one or two people in the server, its not really all that encouraging to play.

This really only happens during the week at this time. The weekends its not so much of an issue.

 

I'm holding out hope that the 1.0 release will make the come back of the server. We'll see the full life in it again.

 

My comments above may well have come on due to the crap that I have going on in my life at the moment, but snide remarks like that from a Head Admin was really just the proverbial straw.

Honestly, maybe people just want to play an enjoyable round of the game.

I guess I joined in the twilight games of this community.

Yes most nights the Big D server rests quietly and yes others tend to go other servers.

But on nights like Friday and Sunday you do get numbers back and you have some pretty sick rounds for that matter but hey 1.0 is around the corner somewhere

i honestly want peoples feedback, im not making snide remarks and the comments from bahlye are genuine from a head admins point of view when he sees the community he holds together elsewhere.

 

remember you can't interpret tone in forums.

 

I understand wanting to play with friends and during the week its pretty dull.

 

What i want to know is if this is a common thought about the BigD community and its servers.

If it is then what can be done about it and do people even want to try?

Unlike toons, I always seem to get involved in the mire that is internet arguments. I'm not gonna go for some moral highground or anything, after all, even when I did play a lot, I was never one to seed the servers. Now I've just been getting back into PR lately after quite a hiatus and I had pretty much just accepted that at least during the week, bigD servers were empty, simple as that. I don't see it as a big problem, it's a server for a niche community that's been drained by shiny new games, people moving on, whatever. However there generally seems to be more than enough interest on the weekends to get some quality aussie, low ping battles going. So if (until 1.0 at least), I can only hope/expect to play on a populated bigD server on the weekends, then that'll just have to do, because I'd rather that than no bigD at all!

It's all about the seeders. People play when people can be bothered seeding used to seed a lot, but I don't anymore. I refuse to seed on skirmish maps please and they're always the first maps. Skirmish maps are good for seeding if you've got a few friends that will help out (clan) but otherwise it's boring.

 

It's a shame there's practically only 1 active Australian clan with the numbers capable of seeding the server. But you can't blame them for playing on the populated servers, I mean they don't get yelled at for "stacking".

 

The Australian community trumps the American guys by so far it isn't funny. I'd much rather play a game on bigd than on CIA, the quality of gameplay is much higher.

 

The problem is you can't really fix the population issue, PR is losing players faster than its gaining. BigD's population Is aging, people have kids and more responsibility and don't have time to seed the server. Need to way of getting organised to seed the server. I suggest a live chat room inbeded on the forums so you can say like, anyone free to seed the server? And see if anyone is down to help.

After spending 6 or 7 hours on the forums doing things for the benefit of the community , perhaps seeing that many people on a OS server irked me a tad ? .

was on cia early one arvo w.a time having a round with about 8 or 9 bigD com members, when about5.30/6pm w.a time came round it was Holzy or Yak said ok come on its about the right time to start seeding bigD. we all jumped over n almost brought a fellow yank squaddie, a few more joined in n it was 12 a side for a while. The weekends seam to get the best turn out for bigD.

We have picked up one new aus player 'Sonter', good fellow, learned quick n strategic, you'd know him by now.

Hopefully 1.0 draws more peeps.

i can only game certain times, sometimes if there is a few on bigD i will jump on to learn a bit from the guys n have a bit of a chat, other times i've jumped on a full server cos its fun running with the aus/nz lads against a full team of baddies.

I reckon that next allstar match would be great unfortunately i cant play, and i know Holzy has another senario welll formed. The last one of those that igot to play in, and the allstar match have been two of my most fun pr times in the last 4 months.

i dont know what the answer is, its a great game with some dedicated n friendly people. I'm spewing at the numbers. Sorry no real answers here just some opinions

I'd still play every night, but I'm drifting out coz I'm too late to successfully seed most nights (20:00 or later before I can get in). By then there are 8+ Aussies on the server I'm not allowed to mention here.

 

The only possibly constructive suggestion I can make is "BRING A MATE".

 

How many of you have NEVER told anyone about the fantastic online contemporary strategic FPS you play? TELL THE WORLD.

 

Tell 'em at work, at play, on Crackbook, Twatter, by email, voice, SMS, whatever. See if you can recruit a new player this month. I have. Witchpig. He's busy but he turns up occasionally. It's not for everyone - the other friend I engaged in PR was DPACD - it wasn't for him.

I'm just sucked in with Uni and college really. Going home in a couple of weeks for a few days, so I'll get some play time in then.

 

But it's a real stretch to be able to get online here unfortunately.

I'll be seeding at around 8 tonight, Friday night is usually a good night on bigd so if you are reading this, get in early to seed and the server will pick up quickly

Went on to server to seed, 6 players and it crashes. Fantastic. I really feel like sitting on there trying to get a game going now... Now look where some of those players have gone? CIA server.

Gameplay might be of a lower standard on the US servers but at least they can get a round or two in.

 

It is disappointing to come back after an extended period of time to play PR and the servers are virtually dead. Around Christmas I came back as I now have more time on my hands and have missed playing in this community. I have being for the last couple of months getting on the server regularly and trying to stimulate players interest in conjunction with a small number of regular players. It is disheartening to be called out for wanting to play on a populated server for once and to play the game to its full extent. I do not always have time to try and revive a dead server.

 

The original post wasn’t needed in its current form, yes we as a community needs to pull together if we have any chance of keeping PR in Australia alive long enough for a proper new release to occur. The leaders of this community need to encourage and support us, not otherwise.

 

Tone of Voice can be typed effectively and be communicated through text, in fact my workplace has an internal Tone of Voice policy just for electronic communication on its own. As you can see in my first part of the post, my tone of voice is negative, as was the tone found in the OP.

 

Take my post however you wish, I’m presenting it as a frustrated player who wants to play.

CIA server crashes just as much IMO. More frequently when a mapvote doesn't go the way they want it seems. I will be on later tonight. Thanks to the seeders
