So the PR guys are holding an awards night for any PR movies people can send it with a few catagories. Entries have to be in by Feb 10th, and can be from any year previously, which makes up a good few thousand videos, but anything submitted after will go into the next years comp (if there is one).

 

I've got a couple of ideas, but it all comes down to who I can get on board. So would anyone be up for trying to make something in the month we have?

Now the plan, or at least my plan, was to make a little 3-4 minute video on a lone BLUFOR squad during an insurgency round and aim it at best picture/comedy. I'll write up a simple script over the next few days, post it up here and get some C&C on it.

Not all the roles need will need mics, and there'll be other oppurtunities to act other than the main BLUFOR squad.

 

If all goes reasonably well, it'll be a fun little project for us all.

Ok so I've got two ideas running for the video and this is where we get to choose. The idea is that the second one is far more effort than the other in terms of logistics and planning, but if we can get it right it'll be bloody awesome!

Time is against us, and I'll apologise for leaving this a week, just had a lot on the plate that's kept me busy/distracted. Anyway I hope we're all still ready and willing for some action!

 

Idea 1: "Breach"

The cast is as follows:

- Rambo: An auto-rifleman who always comes out on top in a firefight, though acting more like an action hero than a PR player (hip fires, no regard for personal safety).

- Noob: A newer player of PR, still trying out the kits. Just respawned, he grabs an engie kit in the hopes of causing some damage. Has a tendency to not read the manual properly...

- Squad Leader: A veteran of the game, guides the squad through to the cache without being spotted. When the fight starts he's barking orders and staying cool.

- Medic: Follows the squadies orders to the letter, though complains when others don't. Known for running through enemy fire to get to wounded/down team mates.

- Specialist: A supposed one man army, has a tendency to come up on enemies (and the squad) from behind, though is decent in a fight.

 

Summary:

Follows the exploits of a single Blufor squad, five members strong, sneaking into a known cache on Kokan.

They've been fighting over it for a fair while, in which case the entire squad, bar Rambo have been killed off, respawning at the nearby firebase. Noob grabs a engineer kit, though he hasn't read the manual even if he insists on it. Moving through the compound, (bar Rambo who's drawing all their attention), the squad takes out a few sentries before getting to a locked door with the chache inside. Realising that blowing the door will allert the entire enemy team that they're there, the squad gets ready to go in quick and blow the cache, Noobs choice of kit working to their favour.

However before they're ready, a enemy soldier (who has been trailing them for some time) spots the team and raises the alarm, causing the team to make a mad dash for the door, breaching it and fighting off the surrounding enemies.

Noob runs in, chucks the C4 and attempts to detonate, but doesn't know how. As the the team is pushed into the cache room itself, Noob finally works out how to detonate it and blows the entire squad and cache up.

 

This is one is a lot more story driven, working on the characters and how they relate. If anything I'd want to follow a propper script with this one, so if you're not up for that then there's...

 

Idea 2: "Unkown Cache"

 

Note: I'll flesh this out later tonight, but for now....

Summary:

A three man squad moves on the unknown chache at the beginning of a round of kokan led by a suspiciously good squad leader who knowns the exact location of the unkown. They go in, find the cache where the squad leader said it would be, and blow it in quick succession without alerting the enemy team.

MEANWHILE the rest of BLUFOR is battling it out with OPFOR at the known in a rather over the top, explosive and very loud battle. Orchestrated by a cheesy Commander, the assault invovles amored pushes, helicopter insertions/strafing runs, sustained mortar fire, infantry assaults through the streets and eventually a JDAM before the final bayonet charge through the fields.

It's an all or nothing battle that'll be used to constrast the relatively quite insertion of the three man squad with a few quick cuts here and there.

 

Personally I can see this one running shorter than the first, but the coordination needed will be a lot higher. Lots of firefights, lots of shooting but we'll split the group us so there'll be enough on both sides. A few clever camera placements and cuts and we'll have a full on total war on the screen!

 

So which one would you guys like to have a go at?

Keep in mind that the filming is far simpler and faster than the editing process depending on experience and free time.

 

The second one though... not all Ins maps have Jdams available or helicopters or fields .

Trying to think of one that has all...

With regards to filming the battle scenes 8 players could provide an adequate PEW PEW scene with some dramatic music, smooth editing ect...

Aye that was the plan, get a near full size squad running through with the others in the distance with MG's taking pot shots. Run this through a couple of times with the different variations and you get a decent looking assault.

 

Of coarse getting a few extras for a big set piece shouldn't be too difficult I'm sure, but all this'll will be sussed out before we start rehersing, which I'm planning in a week or two...

 

And yes, they're both 'comical', though Uknown Cache is more silly/ bombastic in this regard.

You can cut editting time if you film well though, and I'm looking for some decent cinematography here so it'll probably be 50:50

I should be pretty sweet to help film anywhere before mid-feb.

Alright, looks like 'Breach' is the favourite so we'll go with that!

I'm still working on the script, and the plan is as follows: for BLUFOR there'll be two major speaking roles (the noob and medic) with the the other three members of the squads being only 'minor' roles. That doesn't mean these guys are less important than the others, just that they have less speaking time.

As for OPFOR, there's only one character needed for these guys, the rest being extras or goons, and none of them speak, so the roles can be switched up between the cast.

 

As for rehersals and such, I'm thinking of booking one of the servers on the coming Wednesday & Friday for rehersals, then the final shooting on Saturday.

 

So if people can PM me with what role they'd be up for doing and what days and time they're free to reherse then we can get this ball roling >
