Hey all,

 

there hasn't been a ping thread in quite a while, so I'm gonna start one.

 

Having issues with both GAU PR servers. My ping should be around the 60-80 range from previous experience. Instead, it hovers up around the high 190's to early 200's and sometimes jumps up to 230s etc.

 

Has been happening for a few months now, but I'm over it. I thought it was congestion in my area - but I've been on CIA with the same ping ~220ish. So I'm not sure what to think.

 

When I was at college I had to use an extremely dodgy VPN wifi connection, that was slow as hell but even that managed a low 60 ping - and I haven't changed any major settings in the last year.

 

We literally just took a step up in our internet plan as well, went from about 1.4Gbps to 6 or 7Gbps - but the ping remains the same (might've dropped about 10 or so).

 

Any suggestions guys? Ports I should be opening in the router (we got a new one of those probably nearly 2 years ago so it shouldn't be that).

Your being routed through japan and back? do you have a vpn or a japanese proxy or something?

Not that I know of. I had to install a program called Cisco Anyconnect to logon to the net at college - but I'm not using that here (that I know of).

 

And I don't use Proxy's, I have no need.

for future reference and easy posting/reading ( and hiding your home ip ), use

 

tracert 125.63.51.207 > "C:\Users\billgates\Desktop\traceresult.txt"

 

and you are being routed overseas..

 

it might pay to try a few other AU based ISP box trace's and compare results

 

eg tel$tra / optarse / intersplode etc

I'm just on my tab at the moment so when I get back on my laptop I'll try some other things.

 

Do you have any suggestions as to why we're being routed to Japan? Maybe Psyrus has something to do with this...

That's another two tracerts, does that show anything helpful? Obviously my ping isn't as high and it doesn't look like I'm going via Japan.

Anyone able to shed light on why GAU is different for me?

psst - first hop is your internal subnet / router - 2nd hop (202.93.106.xxx) is your external ip

 

 

and usually you keep the same external ip if you just do a quick reset - you need to turn it off for 20-30 minutes for a tunnel reset/ip change - not always but most of the time. (maybe turn the router off when you go to bed and recheck in the morn)

 

looks like ISP side decide to route that way to get to the pr boxes - piss poor routing - i'd be complaining.

 

could also change your DNS and flush it (think its ipconfig /flushdns on winblows)

 

do an ipconfig /all and pm it to me - for curiosity

How do i run a tracert? been having the same problem since moving to melbourne

@Hamster, go to command prompt, type tracert then the ip address of either BigD server and hit enter.

If you use Spiders fancy line after the ip address changing bill gates to your username it'll save a txt file with the results to the desk top.

Hmmm Xavo, Canhascow on 236 and Chrisso who is sitting on a nice 221 ping on the server atm are all Queensland guys iirc ?...

Hell I get 76 ping from Perth to the servers (which are in Sydney).

Didnt have any issues prior to today. Did any server settings get changed?

...Most peoples pings were normal its only you guys that I am aware of with the bad ping.

And there isn't anything server side side that affects peoples pings, network side however I have no idea if they have changed anything but its also unlikely to be the cause of your bad ping if its only affecting some players.

it's just OUR connection with GAU which is odd. Tried other games / IPs no issues. Ill call my ISP in the morning and see what they have to say.

Weird, I only get issues to GAU as well. Although my issue is completely my ISP I'm pretty sure.

Just wondering if anyone else is experiencing slow internet on the East coast?

 

We're not quite at capped speeds, but then I don't know if they upgraded that with the new plan - do they normally upgrade the shaped speed?

 

Just a random thought that something might've been damaged with all the extreme weather that's going on down there right now.

Haha, it was the floods.

Not sure how I'm getting internet at the moment, but everything except our landline was gone from literally after I posted yesterday.

All the ATMs in the town are down, except for the one ANZ which had a 100m queue. Some businesses were cash only, and all the tills were really slow.

I wasn't going to mention it, but it seems like large parts of your part of the planet are underwater atm.

SE QLD and NE NSW are really copping it sweet.

 

It's kind of funny from a North QLD point of view (but not really since people are really in a lot of trouble down there) since what is happening down there can be somewhat described as 'normal monsoonal weather events' by us up here.

We had close to 300mm of rain in a night and a day here and we didn't even get properly cut off. The creek became impassable for about 3hrs for a 4wd (tractor was fine) and a few trees came down, but was short work for the chainsaw that we always carry.

Hay Point got a Tornado, which did do some damage - basically like what we can expect from a low end cyclone, only with a lot less warning. But a lot of people don't realise that our typical monsoonal storm setups (depending on topography and local conditions at the time) are actually quite ripe for Tornado development.

 

The differences lie in the fact that up here, everyone is ready for severe weather with cyclone kits, clean yards, plans etc and our local terrain and infrastructure is more suited to deal with strong winds and heavy rain.
