Hey guys,

my primary hard drive is full so i bought a secondary.

I'm going to uninstall steam and re install it on the second drive.

I have several gig worth of games in the common folder.

 

My question is can i paste this folder onto the new drive then dump it in the common file of the re installed steam?

I'm guessing that the folder path will be stuffed up but if at all possible i'd rather not have to re download it all

i run a dual boot system with win 8 and 7 everything is installed on the win 8 dir but i run games on win 7 by just creating a shortcut from the win 8 dir for steam or whatever and running as admin....if going from a steam account i guess if you back up everything then add it back once reinstalling steam things should be good.....im not the best to ask though.

You can right click and backup game and it will convert it into a file you can just run to reinstall it, or you can just copy your steamapps folder over. And is it just me running the beta version of steam, or did the last patch add functionality to change your install drive on steam?

There is a specific help thread/post explaining how to do this step by step on the actual steam site. It's not as simple as just copying over to the new drive.

that you could right click option the game or the dual boot option didnt occur, but the gem is checking the steam site. Hehe, i must of been knackered, thanks guys

I did try to rename it that night a few minutes after posting,

it worked for the heading of my first post but didnt change the forum page heading orsubsequent posts

hopefully my post didnt come across as FU check steam site. It was more, I had smae prob and there was a specific thread on steam site, but not sure of exact link so check it out there

Uh, Using the Beat update, you can Just make a Steamapps library on a seperate Drive without having to move your steam installation now. I have Most of my games on My Terrabyte drive, and the rest on my C drive.
