Hey all, so by now everyone should know how illiterate I am with computers...

So just a quick question, it's beneficial to install the latest drivers for my GPU right?

That being the case I've downloaded the latest nvidia ones for my 9300M G, it says its compatible on the website. Is there precautions I should take before installing - like a system backup or something? Or is it an easy fix to revert back?

Also, I assume it'll need a computer restart to apply it? (Just asking cause it's a pain to get the internet working again).

Cheers!

It'll be fine. Just install it - I don't think it will need a restart.

I never need to restart after installing the Nvidia drivers for a desktop GPU.

I can't say if it would be necessary, there seems to be a lot of useless

info online. Perhaps someone with some hooks into some good technical

refernce can help.

How is it hard to get the interwebz working again after restart ?

You need to restart at least every now and then - at work I have come across

PCs which have been on for 9 months or more occasionally and

this (although extreme) sort of thing causes (or rather - *can* cause)

all sorts of problems.

Sandy had an admin noob problem - not the first - accidentally edited out your post. I was trying to respond.

Feel free to complain to head admins, sorry.

(I hit the wrong button...)

I don't know if you know, but Cisco VPN software is a steaming pile of .... . Sometimes it connects after one go, but more often than not it takes anywhere from 5 - 30 minutes of continuous reentering passwords.

:D

I work in an IT service desk. VPN is exactly what you suggest.

Laptops suck for remote tech support, from my experience:

hard to ping or remote into. You wanna drive a molten wedge up the

Uni's botty - they are really cheaping out on you.

(this was the original post I intended to make to your post Xavo, sorry about the editing error - maybe Noddy or Bahlye can bring the post back up).

Haha no worries there Sandy. I don't see anything wrong with the post?

We tried to get college to do stuff for a while, but they wouldn't budge. It's improved a lot over the year - but now there's only a week left so no point really.

Just spent the best part of 4 hours trying to get Java working to no avail. Followed every instruction on their site, including reinstalling about 5 times and nothing.

Oh there was nothing wrong at all... I am just not paying attention and clicking

the wrong button, reposting and then realising what I have done...

For one week it's certainly not worth it. Still, I bet they are

neglecting some sort of implicit responsibility to you.

I guess it was the fact that we just had to have "working internet." And not "fast working internet."

Not surprising though, you should see some of the meals we get ;)
