Just picked up a new chair from Officeworks (not sure if they are in NZ) similar to this one, mine only set me back $150.

If your going to get a chair like it, where the arms connect the back to the seat, make sure that the arms are metal. I've had 2 chairs now that had plastic arms and after a time they split at the mounting points.

If you've got the spare cash you could always have a look at something like these

Your probable best bet would be to go to the NZ equivalent of Officeworks, or some office supply shop, and test ride a few different chairs to see how they feel and how well constructed they are.

They generally have a lot of those managerial type chairs that are a lot better than the regular grunt officeworker chairs ;)

I got my chair from officeworks, I hate it! HATE IT! Poor build quality and it doesn't last, Had one for about 9 months and had it replace under warranty, gas cylinder faded out and collapsed and the coating peeled off the bottom and arm rests ( I don't use them ! ) and the foam in the seat isn't very plush. on the second one now its starting to peel again the foams gone and the gas cylinder is feeling a bit rough a sinks a couple of centimetres after I've sat in it for a while. I would avoid like the plauge, I'm not buying one of their chairs again ( yes I'm overweight but I'm in the chairs listed threshold ) Just for reference I have this one http://www.officeworks.com.au/retail/products/Furniture/Chairs/Leather-and-Plush-Chairs/OWSEATTLE

Wasn't sure if NZ had officeworks though so I wasn't gonna mention it before -.- I loved the chair when I first sat on it in the store, it felt more rigid and very comfortable, but it didn't turn out that way :\

Well I sat in a busted up camp chair for about a year and a half. Even the worst chairs can be made tolerable to comfy with a decent cushion (or just a bunch of $5 from Kmart).

Other than that, look for sturdy metal Manager chairs (not office chairs, look for ones a manager would use, they're more expensive, but bigger/stronger/comfier).

I bought on of these about 4 -5 years ago now and it is still the best chair... EVER!!!

Expensive at the time but good to see the price hasn't changed since I bought mine. All metal construction except for some plastic trims up the back rest, adjustable head and arm rests and recline. Has one busted arm rest from where the dog clawed at it while trying to get onto my lap (it's a 15kg collie x kelpie) while I was on the phone. A bit of silicone in there solved that problem.

I have a big 70s managers chair - it must weigh 20 kgs and swings way back to about 70 deg reverse and -5 forward. It is sh!t-hot. Auctions or old businesses in town.

I found my chair on the side of the road, pretty comfy.

And only with a minimum of suspicious stains!

DON'T YOU CLUCK WITH ME, BUDDY!

After that night I started peeing out the window to avoid going down the hallway when it was dark.

Did it have them when you found it or did they appear since ????
