Hey yall,

Any shooters lurking around up for a good old fashioned ill-show-you-mine-if-you-show-me-yours thread? IMO there is not enough gun discussion going on :p

Pic related, my girl: (Comments welcome!)

Not yet, still in the process of negotiations with the Ministry of Finance for one of these...

Altho I have seen one of these at a local (well West Oz) gunsmiths, but much as I'd love it I doubt I'd be able to afford it...

[edit] - have fired the father-inlaws .303 on their old farm, with my limited experience of .223, .22, .22 Hornet, pump/single/semiauto shotguns, and various hand guns (inc a black powder) I feel I can safely say the .303 is the most satisfying to shoot.

Ah yes - my dad has an old SMLE. First centre fire I ever shot, and very satisfying. Brass buttstock was none too kind on my inexperienced shoulder back then!

The sniper variants are delicious, especially if they are original and matching - and very expensive. There are a few places around that make authentic reproductions but they can still be pretty expensive (http://www.cleaverfirearms.com/Rifles_James_River.htm)

So many things I would like to spend money on, but given the advancing on my licence my next purchase is much more likely to be one of these:

Good luck with the Ministry of Finance - so many hoops to jump through to keep them happy ;)

to be fair, she actually has no issue with me getting one, its more living in the city, having kids, no real decent place to store the safe and not having a property to shoot it on that are making her hesitant, still have a mate who goes to a gun club near Wanaroo tho and Whiteman Park isn't very far away either...

That was taken at little river moonbuggy! I go shooting there with him too. Do you live near by?

Thats a fantastic looking cz by the way :)

I'm on the other side of the bay in Frankston Aka - Funky Town.

I used to go shooting there a fair bit with ze' ol' Man when he lived down this way.

We tried to get there at least once a month, mainly to have a shot with the military shooters.

Used to get a laugh out of the nobs who would walk around in Yowie suits.....

Don't go often enough - I have strong ideas about minimising cruelty - one-shot should be enough and if possible it's a head or heart instant kill. Also take the military approach (cadet experience a long time ago on SLR and M16) to safety. Ask partner / another to call clear on my breach.

Own a handful - inherited plus bought - two of which are interesting I guess - Churchill .243 and Lithgow .22 hornet.

Overdue for a pig trip.

I agree with Salt, should be a 1 shot 1 kill kind of situation but when you're

hunting targets over a few thousand tonnage you just gotta get a bigger gun.

Mine is 5''

I'm not a sir I work for a living.

Lovely CZ moonbuggy, and yeah that is Little River - hoping to get down there this weekend and put some hits on some steel plates I have made up. They have added a whole new range recently, so it will be interesting to see if it is finished yet.

The 22 sounds lovely - thats not like a SMLE trainer is it?

Have been meaning to give service match a go - I'm an action man so far so I get to shoot that twice next week :D

Prozac the .22 hornet could be an SMLE trainer (its timber and some workings are adapted (the magazine port(?) for example is resized to accommodate the hornet rounds. Expensive rounds - I'm not the guy to be reloading my own.

They really punch considering small bore - not tried on pigs but I have used it to drop other ferals - very effectively with a heart shot.

Some tighter laws for illegal guns in Australia.

You guys are also apparently getting a national register. Commonly regarded world over (see Canada) as an expensive waste of time.

I'll just leave this here. Would cause your anti-gun people to sh!t their pants.

Write your Representative a letter telling him/her that gun registers are an expensive waste of time. Include the Canadian example.

Let this be a warning to New Zealanders - this is what happens when you bow to politics; only outlaws have guns.

A rifle is just a bit of machined steel and timber capable of spitting out a bit of lead quickly. Without malicious intent it is no more dangerous than a pair of shoes. Don't let your current privileges be further stripped back - it is teetering on the point at which there is no return for the lawful owners to pursue their sport. Making it more unattractive to take up the hobby is only going to lead to it dying out.

As for the current gun owners - take a kid shooting. Teach them safe practices which will lead them to being responsible firearms owners.

TLDR - great sport being eroded by erroneous politics. Don't let it happen.

Samee nice pic. Knew a bloke a long time ago who had one - i hope he kept it under the radar. I forget his name now.

Like most things, (DRM being another great example) all it does is make it hard for those who obey the law to do something they enjoy.

If a crim wants to get hold of a gun, doesn't matter how many laws you have in place they'll still get hold of one.

Majority of firearm related offences, and I mean like over 90 percent, are committed with illegally owned firearms anyway.

If they tighten laws to punish legally owned firearm owners they will have almost the exact same problem they have now.

[sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]

tight gun laws just promote illegal ownership which means uneducated dangerous practices to those who would have them. license carriers are not the problem, but are treated as criminals and lied about on the media.

this is a vid of me in the USA using semi/fully automatic firearms in a safe and fun environment, there is no reason to have anything shown here on a ban list.

Completely agree with your thoughts on tighter guns laws, it is only hurting the sport and the lawful gun owners, does very little for illegal trade and ownership of firearms.

BUT, I can see absolutely no reason why there would be a need for fully automatic firearms like the ones in your video (M4, P90, even the barrett).

They are military weapons, plain and simple. They are not competition target guns, not hunting rifles.

The only place that I could imagine them other then the military/police is in a heavily restricted, tightly controlled range, and I'm even dubious about that. The only reason would be for the ****s & giggles.

Really? Its an anti-material rifle. Its used against hard targets (vehicles, buildings etc) or soft targets behind cover or at extreme ranges.

Its not like your going to go hunting with it, there would be nothing left of your prey. Also the range safety that has to be taken into consideration is massive.
