Thought this might be of interest....

Talk about blurring the lines of reality.

Some of you may already be aware of this, but I figured I would post it for the benefit of those who haven't seen this article, taken from the BBC website.

Whoever took those screen shots in the article did a great job at posing etc.

Read the article you will actually notice that John Cantlie was the photographer and did the screenshots himself, not to mention the last half of the article is in his words.

Quite a good read.

"Photographer John Cantlie raised an interesting point with me recently. As the latest generation of computer war games are so realistic, he wondered, perhaps the next sufferers of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) may not even have left their bedrooms."

I believe it may have been simply a question that he posited, albeit perhaps a naive one,as it would be impossible..

Unless the person playing was mentally unbalanced to begin with.

He might be talking about the future for "IF" the invent a more realistic gaming system

but if that was true we could plug in and actually play real solders in a real war

Don't point that out to the military, you might give them ideas...

I still think that getting PTSD is nearly impossible regardless of how real the game gets. The fact that it is, regardless, its still a 'game'.

In a game, you don't have to deal with the:

a) stress of families back home

b) death of real comrades

c) real civilian deaths

d) near death situations

e) getting maimed or seriously injured

f) weather

ect...it goes on and on.

A game cant tick all of those boxes.

Let's go, let's go overground

Take your head out of the mud baby

Certainly some nice exposure for Arma 2, leading into A3.

The judge smiled. Men are born for games. Nothing else. Every child

knows that play is nobler than work. He knows too that the worth or merit of a

game is not inherent in the game itself but rather in the value of that which is

put at hazard. Games of chance require a wager to have meaning at all. Games

of sport involve the skill and strength of the opponents and the humiliation of

defeat and the pride of victory are in themselves sufficient stake because they

inhere in the worth of the principals and define them. But the trial of chance or

trial of worth all games aspire to the condition of war for here that which is

wagered swallows up the game, player, all.
