My next build is going to be a water cooled AMD/ATI build.

The consensus that I've heard on Whirlpool is that the 8xxx series will be the sweet ones. So if you're on a 6xxx card at the moment, it's better to hold out till the 8xxx series. (Just an idea though).

yep, while not a fan of nVidia cards myself the competition between the two is great as it helps drive development. Now if only they could work on lowering the power while delivering the same performance that would be great (o:

 

also hopefully AMDs next chip will actually provide some form of competition to Intel, even if it drives Intel to push their tech harder.

Wow if the 8000 is meant to be better than this, what can we expect, 5gb of VRAM per card?

 

either way this 3gb beast is still cheaper than the 6990, i guess we'll see what it adds up to in benchmarks.

Well its always going to be better since it's the newest version. But when I say the 8xxx is the sweet spot is because they will refine the new architecture and get rid of any bugs that pop up etc.
