Posted December 6, 201113 yr Hey Guys, Looking at getting back into online gaming after taking about a year off. My current system is really starting to piss me off - unstable and more problems than you can poke a stick at. I want to bin the whole lot and start again. What would you guys recommend as far as a system goes for $1500? I need the following: Case Mobo GFX Card SSD Hard Drive Standard Hard Drive PSU CPU RAM I can put it together myself but I am a nuffty with buying the right parts etc. I am looking to gear it up for Il2 Cliffs of Dover, Flight Sim X, BF3 and Diablo 3 when it finally comes out. Any help is appreciated. Edited December 6, 201113 yr by Rarmy http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v390/pennywise_pw/pennywiseevilfun.png -Evi|. PR Captain
December 6, 201113 yr Hi will be good to see you back http://whirlpool.net.au/wiki/rmp_sg_whirlpoolpcs_gaming_configs_1 http://i783.photobucket.com/albums/yy116/IINoddyII/aux1_zpsab5224fd.png
December 6, 201113 yr I would recommend holding off just until late January when Nvidia and ATI release new graphic cards. By then the current range of Intel and AMD cpu's would of dropped a little too.
December 6, 201113 yr Need any extras? Screen etc? I'd go with this for a start: ~$1500 ish CPU: Intel Core i5 2500K $235 - (great choice) Mobo: Asrock Z68 Extreme3 Gen3 $139 - The motherboard has really nice 8+4 phase power supply with some really nice mofset cooling to allow an awesome overclock, with 2 x PCIe 3.0 x16 slots, a Crossfire/SLI would go awesome here. Gold caps, means longer lifespan and it has HD 7.1 surround sound audio capabilities (pretty much standard, but still shmicko) RAM: 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3-1600MHz $55 - (also great choice, I'd recommend the G.Skill real cheap with nice heat dispensers) SSD: Intel 320 Series 120GB $219 - (nice size and will hold all programs) HDD: Seagate Barracuda Green 2TB $179 - (put everything else on this, ie, pics/music etc) GPU1: 1GB Nvidia GTX560 $194 GPU2: 1GB Nvidia GTX560 $194 - (could go with 6950's, but these are reeaalll nice for the price) Case: (yeah, pick this yourself, its a personal chioce thing, just make sure it has enough cooling, and maybe buy 2 extra fans to fit on it to allow the cooling to work nice ) PSU: Antec TruePower TP-750 750W $140 - (plenty of voltage in this sucker, even run this one myself, and it has PLENTY of modular cables so you can clean up for case making it nice and spiffy) ODD: DVD burner $22 - (nothing fancy, unless you wanted a Blu-Ray player and want to pay more) CPU HSF: Thermalright HR-02 Macho $59 - (Good CPU cooler allows better overclock) This was one of the Whirlpool recommends, but I edited it a bit to make it nicer and to your appeal. They are good to start from, and this one seems pretty solid, change it as you would! Best of luck I would recommend holding off just until late January when Nvidia and ATI release new graphic cards. By then the current range of Intel and AMD cpu's would of dropped a little too. Don't wait. If you wait, there will only be newer things coming out to wait for. With PC's its best just to go and buy what you can at the time you can, because in the end, it will only be the 'newest and best' for the first month you own it Such is the life with technology. http://i574.photobucket.com/albums/ss187/Chanvlan/new_kit.jpg yeah but this is the internet' date=' you have to expect the unexpected or else you'll get caught out by things you should've expected but didn't. Its exactly like knowing about the stuff you dont know about, that way you know theres stuff you dont know so when you know what you dont know you can say "ah i knew that!"[/quote']

It is because the component factory that supplies WD/Seagate including WD factory in Thailand is still flooded and has stopped production and there is only enough in the supply chain to last a very limited time, resellers already have had to buy their stock at much higher prices or face the risk of missing out on the stock completely. Even if there is a new shipment coming in, this is limited stock as there's no more stock perhaps in 1-2 months after arriving since the factory has to catchup with the global demands. This is also still depending on how quick the factory can recover as they're currently still under water. All the big brands out there is also affected from these, the HP/Lenovo/Apple etc are all after the same thing and they'll be bidding to get the stock so they can sell their systems otherwise no sale of system if you dont have the hard drives. We see that now the SSD hard drive manufacturers will be the winners here for systems. The price gap wont be as big as before. If you want to not pay even higher price in months to come, then better buy your hard drives now as it is very likely that it will keep going up as soon as stock runs lower and lower in the supply chain. Here is an excerpt from the VP of Acer: "As PC brand vendors' hard disc drive (HDD) inventory level will soon hit bottom, vendors will start experiencing HDD shortages in December and the problem will reach its peak in February until recovery comes in March", according to Acer vice president Scott Lin. Despite PC brand vendors having already taken measures to secure and expand supply sources right after Thailand's flood, sources from the upstream supply chain still estimate that the hard drive supply gap will reach 35% in the fourth quarter with PC vendors starting feeling the pressure in December. http://www.scorptec.com.au/news/#338 http://img803.imageshack.us/img803/5557/maz32medic.pnghttp://www.speedtest.net/result/1450815478.png

But, only ATI at the moment are ready for release in january, nVidia are still about April.. The reason you would want to hold off for a month is because they are going through a die shrink, which in turn will give you more performance/watt.. they will also run alot cooler.. March 9, 201213 yr no need another pc upgrade thread $1000 for upgrade of pc current gear Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 3.00GHz 1333Mhz 6MB Cache 2x 1GB DDR3 1333MHz 8800 GTS 516Mb mohter board - ga x38t dq6 idiots are hardcoded
March 9, 201213 yr Going off of this. How old is the CPU? If it's getting on 3+ years - I'd replace it. For a $1000 budget - I'd maybe go with an AMD CPU, simply for bang for buck. Although that would mean replacing the mobo - but that's not really a big deal. (My suggestion - this.) That RAM is old and just to boot - there really isn't much of it. Try this. If you aren't looking for a gaming PC, then that graphics card is fine. However if you want a little amp up - try this. As for mobo - with an AMD CPU, maybe something along these lines. Along with other peripherals such as case etc. That should land you around $1000, I haven't done any calculations, and can't vouch for the AMD parts myself (as I'm an Intel man) however I've heard some good things.
