Setting up Mute, Deafen, and Squad Leader channel hotkeys.

Explanation for what the keys do: Mute with disable your microphone, deafen with disable mumble voices, squad leader radio allows you to talk to other SL in the SL channel.

1. Start mumble.

2. At the top of the window go to Configure>Settings.

3. A new window should appear, at the top of the window are some tabs. Click on the tab that says "Shortcuts".

4. At the bottom left of the window click "add". A new function should appear called "unassigned". We need to give it a proper function and a key to use it.

5. Double click on "unassigned" and a drop down menu should appear. Choose on "Squad leader radio"

6. Now just in the area to the left of where it now says "Squad leader radio", under the heading "shortcut" double click. You can now assign a button to use for the squad leader radio.

7. Repeat steps 4-6 for the functions "Toggle Mute Self" and "Toggle Deafen Self".

Using Seperate Team Channels.

1. Start up mumble and join the Official PR server.

2. Find the BigD server group and join the waiting room. Have a look at who is in what team channel, there is usually at least one or two regulars that you know. Remember their names. (eg you see your friend Joe Bloggs in team 1)

3. Start PR, join the BigD server.

4. Once ingame, look at the scoreboard to see who is on what team. You should be able to recognise the players you remembered from before and there fore know what team is which in mumble. (eg you see Joe Bloggs on the PLA team, you are on the US team, therefore you should be in mumble team 2)

If you cant work it out you can join one of the team channels and ask politely what team they're on.

5. Alt tab to minimise PR. Then join the appropriate team channel. If you are a squad leader it is a good idea to join the squad leader channel for that team.

If you are team swapped don't forget to switch team channel. Since you are most likely on the dead screen when you are swapped, you should have plenty of time to minimise the game and change channel.

If the mumble server is empty when you join (eg when first seeding the server early in the day), Blufor is team 1 and Opfor is team 2.

When the rounds end YOU DO NOT have to switch team channels.

This thread is not open for discussion on the advantages or disadvantages of using Mumble or Separate team channels, please do not debate in this thread. If you need help or have something to add to this tutorial you are welcome to post.

Do I use this technique to set up a global chat hotkey? I ask because I enjoyed the chat between maps when mumble usage was high.

Also, can this thread be made sticky? This may encourage greater acceptance of the change and make implementation easier. I know I will be searching for this thread some time this week when I go to play PR.
