Posted September 23, 201113 yr Yes, some of us still do! I'm more than happy to have books recommended. I'm currently reading "Bull Fighting" - Roddy Doyle. Finding it a bit prickly at times - a set of short stories about men getting older - a bit close to the bone. and "Special Forces Heroes" - Michael Ashcroft - a great read about extraordinary people. Just finished "The Pirate of Tobruk" - Alfred B. Palmer - his life was fascinating.
September 24, 201113 yr I just finished "The Bone Man of Kokoda", very interesting read, it follows the life of a Japanese Imperial Soldier. It's hard to tell the authenticity of some of the events but it's still a fascinating book. Now I'm reading "Korea, The Forgotten War". [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]

September 24, 201113 yr The Belgariad and The Mallorean books by David Eddings, a Really GREAT read, twas where i got my middle name from if you into fantasy books then anything by David Eddings is a really great read finished reading the His Dark Materials books, which is The Golden Compass, The Subltle Knife, and The Amber Spyglass... great books, TGC is much better as a book then movie...they failed horribly with it http://img213.imageshack.us/img213/2176/shifty2.jpg Well basically we're fighting a native people who was overthrown by our imperialistic government which is situated elsewhere. Our nation's desire is to maintain these various underlying colonies. In particular this form of state has multiple resistance factions which ultimately fights for an independent sovereign nation. Meanwhile we fight to eliminate their unruly resistance to our suppressive discriminatory government. Therefor and thusly, we are all stuck, in a giant, Team Deathmatch.
September 24, 201113 yr The Working Brain by Professor A. R. Luria. After this I'm going to get into the second book (and indeed the rest of the books) in the Song of Ice and Fire series by George Martin.

I just finished the second book and I have to say I love them. This woman is a wonderful story teller and I am thoroughly enjoying these books. September 24, 201113 yr Awesome series, re- reading the earlier ones again to refresh my memory ready for the 5th and final installment of the series that was just recently released =D. :withstupidsmiley: Is a top series, not long finished my self, just got to get the 5th now. If your after suggestions, I've been on a kick of alternate history for a couple of years. If interested, some suggestions would be anything by Harry Turtledove, namley his World War / Colonisation series (Aliens invade middle of WW2), Southern Victory series (American South wins the civil war, 2 Americas(have not finished all of it yet)), I've also read some of his other series's as well. Australian author John Birmingham's Axis of Time trilogy, Without Warning and After America are really good reads as well. Currently listening to Kim Stanley Robinson's Mars trilogy as an audio book. Not a bad way to do it, listening while on the train and driving. http://www.clan-tea.com/sigs/2011/Toons.png[sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] People are always blaming their circumstances for what they are. I don't believe in circumstances. September 25, 201113 yr House to House by Staff Sergeant David Bellavia, It covers the account of Alpha Company during the week long fighting in Fallujah in 2004, just full on stuff, one of the most exciting books ive read
September 25, 201113 yr I'm reading Metro 2033, the actual book. Very different to the game and a lot more immersive. Others on my list are just classics that are on the iBooks store, its great because they are free and all in 13 mm of an iPad 2... Sorry if I'm bragging Other military type books that are good are Warrior Training/Brothers by Keith Fennel and SAS Sniper - the life on an Aus.SASR marksman by Rob Maylor. [img]http://img807.imageshack.us/img807/7060/taters.png[/img] Always, looking for bacon.
September 25, 201113 yr Shadow Warrior is a good read. SAS trained..and hard to catch. David Everett – renegade soldier, outlaw, fugitive and, at one time, Australia’s most wanted man – always liked a bit of action. Here, for the first time, is his remarkable story. http://www.dangerousdaveeverett.com/aboutshadow.html http://i230.photobucket.com/albums/ee118/bahlye/bahlye007/mouse_zps73307fb2.gif
September 25, 201113 yr Author Yeah Bayle, Shadow Warrior is a good read. So are the Keith Fennell books.
September 25, 201113 yr It's weird, but I find I simply can only read fantasy. Anything with a gun or actual history, I swtich off. Maybe it's just me... Just finished Dance with Dragons (Book 5) of Song of fire & Ice by George RR Martin. Now re-reading 'Heroes' by Joe Abercombie. For adult (ie non-teenage) fantasy fans, both these guys are an absolute a must-read IMO. Gritty, adult fantasy. The whole book Heroes is about a three day war. Awesome. Where's the cheese? http://img230.imageshack.us/img230/2315/ubd4327.png
September 25, 201113 yr I also like fantasy. I read Magician in my teens, now I have read the whole Riftwar or Midkemia series by Raymond Feist. I have also read the whole Hornblower series twice. 1800's maritime adventure. It's terrific.
