Fried something..CPU or motherboard??

Hi Gents,

So I reseated the RAM- it is DDR2 4Gb (2x1gb & 1x2gb- I think the store should have put in 2x2Gb!!). Had the power off of course, also took off the CPU fan and dusted it down.

Big problem though....she turned on fine, I could see the increase in speed straight away, but after about 5mins (as I was posting on bigD) the computer just turned OFF.

Damit.

Now it turns on, but nothing comes up on screen. All connections are right. No red thinking light comes up. OS Windows XP doesn't wanna load!!

I checked that the CPU fan was working before rebooting but I had put the 4 pin power supply into the wrong insert. Wrongly a 3 pin insert named "Pwr Fan". So turned the computer off and tried the 2 other 4 (!) pinned inserts named CPU fan & System fan. Same symptoms.

I'm think I've fried something on the CPU/Motherboard??

Pretty crap hey.

Any ideas? FYI The motherboard is GA 965P-S3, graphics card nivida 8600GT and CPU intel core duo. Don't laugh, I brought the rig in mid 2006.

I might now be forced to buy a new desktop!!!

Cheers guys.

SGT.

Does the computer beep when turned on?

Yeah listen for beep codes. That should given you some more information.

Remove all RAM but 1 stick.

Power on.

Work? If Yes, add another stick of RAM. If no, swap RAM out for another stick.

Did it work with the other stick?

I think you can see where I'm headed.
