Posted June 23, 201113 yr Just saw this on another forum the poster said: "To me this is the most incisive exposition of the demise of individual freedom that i believe we are experiencing in western democracies." June 23, 201113 yr Hmm, I watched that McDeth. Mixed feelings. I'm not sure that allowing communication with a basis of hate, ignorance or bigotry should be facilitated in a civilised culture. And I see this coming from the shock jocks who should know better. But I agree that every little erosion of free speech becomes 'another brick in the wall'. (I have no respect for Andrew Bolt.)
June 24, 201113 yr Author I see what you're saying there and do agree with the points regarding hate etc you mentioned. however what i find interesting about this is that 'equal rights' are like he says, not at all equal. By that (and trying not to get all political here) i mean, i'm a white guy so i can get called all kinds of things but lets just say my skin colour was referenced (without any other derogetory terms used) by a different group and if i took offense for some reason and complain, depending on what group it was that said that would depend on what happened. Reverse the cards tho, and if like i said its just referencing the skin color of someone else, i would more than likely be labeled a racist and some form of action would be taken against me. But it doesn't have to be based on skin colour or anything like that, what about men's clubs (not talking the skin shows here)? certain females do feel it is their right to be part of those clubs solely because they are mens clubs, however what are the chances of a man joining a womans club such as a fitness club solely for women? buckleys i'd say. I'm all for equal rights, but only if they are by their own definition equal. However, these days they aren't and like you said every little erosion of free speech (and it doesn't just have to be speech either) becomes another brick in the wall. There comes a time in every musician's life when they must decide what instrument they should master. Few. If any are ever worthy enough to master. The cowbell.
June 24, 201113 yr totally agree mcdeath. i was sitting in a shopping mall up-stairs eating area by myself crying while trying to eat this ****, people were looking...it was embarrasing Moonbuggy relives the horror of eating Bulgarian KFC
June 24, 201113 yr Yeah, I'm bothered both ways (?). On one hand there are the promoters of fear, ignorance, bigotry (read shock-jocks for example), who whip up emotion, particularly among small minded people with a propensity to swallow their rubbish without any thought. On the other hand there are the "minority interest groups" who must spend most of their days waiting around to be insulted, offended by white adult males. ... slightly off-topic... I've got to a stage now when someone sends me one of these "if you don't love Australia, leave" I reply and give them a spray, because so much of the content is mindless, ignorent, uncaring and devoid of understanding or empathy. (For example, try putting yourself in the shoes of someone who's prepared to give up every last posession and financial asset to climb into a leaky boat with a dodgey operator to undertake a perilous voyage to make a better life for your family. Then try to imagine learning to deal with a complete new language, culture, bureaucracy.) I'm not saying "open the gates", however I am saying we need to think. And have empathy. On the other hand, I think that if they want to tell us that we should implement Sharia law (for example), they can pack their toys and leave. (I'll put away my soap-box for a minute now.)

June 24, 201113 yr Political correctness has opened a floodgate for people to hide behind race, fact is stereotypes, races, religions all allow and accept hatred for other stereotypes, races and religions. The two words "Political and Correctness" are a joke and an abomination on peoples freedom. I agree that people should not be victims of abuse, but when a comedian uses a stereotype for a joke and people are offended they should learn to deal with it. http://matt.itsthemadhouse.com/na/sigs/na-sig-gruanch5.png http://bigdgaming.net/images/added/awards/bulletmagnet.bmp http://bigdgaming.net/images/added/awards/gren.bmp http://bigdgaming.net/images/added/awards/ocrs.bmp http://bigdgaming.net/images/added/awards/opagamaserv.jpg
