Digger Down RIP

Summary: Sergeant Brett Wood, a 32 year old digger on his 3rd deployment to Afghanistan was killed by an IED.

Sergeant Wood's death brings to 25 the total number of Australians killed while serving in Afghanistan - 24 with the Australian Defence Force and one with British armed forces. Thirteen Australians have been killed in the past 12 months.

A 32-YEAR-old Digger described as "a magnificent soldier'' by his top commander has died in one of the worst days for our troops fighting in Afghanistan.

 

Sgt Wood had been awarded the medal of gallantry for bravery in Afghanistan in 2006.
