I think we need to start a nice encouragement thread/campaign so that people will start filling up the second server. as boring as it may be to wait 30 minutes to get enough players for a proper game, it's worth it.

So to expand. I myself would rather sit there refreshing for 10 minutes, we all would. But I think it's time that we start setting a trend.

Just start jumping into the empty server when the other server is full. Go afk for a few minutes while you wait for a couple other players, then just sit back and watch the population flow.

+1 Shady I think if people did fill up the other server there would be almost 2 full servers

The other night when black gold was running there was 25+ on the second server, 64 on the first.

 

There do appear to be enough players some nights (esp the last few weeks with a surge of new players...where are they coming from??) so any tricks/ideas to filling that second server would be great IMO.

This is the trend we need to start breaking. If there's enough people to fill up one of the servers and keep it full all night, there should be plenty to at least half fill the other server.

 

Admins what would be the possibility of putting skirmish maps back on the other server?

Biggest killer of player count is server crashes.

Plain and simple you can go from full 64 to 20 something after just one single crash.

Really needs to be looked into. I know lots of USA servers I play on never crash (or very rarely).

Might be hardware/OS, might be admin related, I dont know. All I know is USA servers appear to be more rock solid than ours, especially during map changes where it would appear (me personally) has most of the server crashes/dropouts.

Might want to change the usual overflow server to just maps that work with fewer players.

server crashes often ruin the population of bigD gaming project reality servers as often people cant be flowered making a new game when the one they wer half way thru just crashed its a shame that this issue often occurs

Perhaps I didn't make myself clear when I suggested that this thread wasn't for reporting server issues (we already have a thread for that).

 

Please use the Report Server Issues here whenever you experience a Server crash so we can try and find root cause. Most crashes during map changes are generally client side in any case.

 

FWIW most servers have been having random crash issues up until recently due to code issues which has been patched.

BigD admins are well none for deliberately crashing servers for giggles.. you'll get used to it (not sure how else to respond to such a statement).

Please try and use at least a modicum of grammer and spelling - you've got a lot of valuable things to add to this community..when you rush though something gets lost in translation....

This isn't really new. The player numbers fluctuate. Two months ago this thread was made because there weren't enough players, now there is too many players.

Especially with the 10v10 (hopefully) following the world cup I really dig the idea of 1 server having skirmish maps only. There's nothing like a 4km map at 11pm to kill a server of 40 people.

The issue has been around at every new release and funnily enough mid way through now. Might as well get into the habit now rather then later.

And as for waiting 30 minutes, I waited approx. 45 mins last night to get into the server, so would be happy with this outcome!!

Whynot make the spare server a co-op one? It works well overseas - I play on it when the BigD is full.

i think when pr arma 2 comes out we should get a server for that even if it means loosing one bf2 server (since we are the home of Australian pr) and try and recruit some more people.

yep....after a round finishes, leave the server to open up spots for others and start the second server with 10 people, the 10 empty spots will be replaced quickly and the overflow will have the option of entering the second server that already has 10 people in it....

 

as was said before, the other night had about 80 players on the two servers...so is def potential at peak times....

 

might need to experiment with what times and days it will actually work though, maybe only w/es.

Not sure whether you saw the posts on realitymod.com yesterday but the fact that the 'test' seems to be a permanent thing is causing some angst to other server owners. They feel that the test server is keeping their numbers down.

128players loses is novelty when you have a half second delay ;(

I'm with Sniper. All we need to do is have an admin propose it if the server is full, we'd see the message.

 

I might not do it every time, hard to walk away from an engrossing round.

 

Certainly an option at the end of a round.
