So I can play PR at my GF's house I installed it on her machine, for some reason it CTD's when almost finished loading the map. This doesnt happen on all maps just a few.... any suggestions.

Sounds like the issue I had, Try tweaking the settings, Having all on low was actually causing me to crash on my laptop. Had to raise the view distance, ground clutter and texture res.

 

So just play with the settings. If that doesn't work then I don't think your GF's set up can handle PR. =s

If you have <4gb ram you'll need to run on low/medium textures. Given the size of PR maps I'm pretty sure that high textures fill your ram and the game crashes.

Ok I disabled the firewall, lowered the video settings to LOW and still no joy.

 

To be honest I think this is related to one of the servers cause I can join one no probs.

 

 

P.s. I just tried to join the TG server with all video settings maxed and joind NP..... Scratch

 

Any ideas.

Same prob tonight with Iron Eagle. Cant join the aus server but can join the TG server running the same map np. Dont get it... is it an isp prob?

Well a dev has actually said in that thread that the Namer (the IDF big APC) has inherent issues that cause CTDs for old ATI card users. How that makes any sense is beyond me, it's quite strange that a single APC could cause CTDs for an older generation of graphics cards... Does it use some new rendering tech that was only introduced after these cards debuted?

 

My question is for you - the maps that CTD on loading for bigD... if you make a local game and load that map (iron eagle), does it still CTD?

I agree what an odd problem, I would never have guessed that.

 

I tried what you suggested and yes when I create a local game for iron eagle it ctd's at the same point.

 

I guess I need to get a new card for this PC.

 

Is anyone else on bigd running an ATI X1900 series card that you know of.

Grab this version of the server.zip that I've edited of Iron Eagle... I took out the APCs in question and I'd like to see if you can load in without issue (on a local game that you create).

 

So basically download that file

Backup your \mods\pr\levels\iron_eagle\server.zip

Then overwrite the original with my one.

Start up PR, create a local game with Iron Eagle STD mode

See if it CTDs

Did what you said and hey presto..... the map loaded.

 

Im amazed that its all because of the APC.

 

I guess my options are few, unless there is a server side patch, is that even possible.

I don't think a server side patch would cut it. It'd have to be fixed in a patch or full release. I think the most you could do now is post in the PR forums about this issue and add one more name to the plight, or buy a new Graphics Card.

As a word of warning, put your original file back on now that we've confirmed that, because I got kicked from Jabal for having a md5 mismatch on Iron Eagle... so it scans maps that you're not even playing >_>?
