5.1 Audio Problems

Ok so, As some of you may no I just finished building a new PC, Installed the OS about 2 hours ago now.

So everything is working great, Games look like sex on wheels etc.

But I have one issue so far.

my 5.1 Logitech speakers don't seem to want to work in media players or fullscreen applications.

The front 2 speakers function properly, but the rear two, Bass and front speaker want nothing to do with me.

I went into the Realtek audio manager and fiddled a bit, and when in 5.1 mode the speakers mentioned don't want to work, But in 7.1 all do.

So I figured an easy way to fix it would be to leave it in 7.1 mode, All the speakers were working when tested in realtek AND windows audio test.

But when I went into games, music apps. Nothing, only the front two.

So, Does anybody have any idea how I could fix this?

Using intergrated audio on my Gigabyte GA-P67A-UD4.

Google did nothing!!

G'day Brother.

Remember, when you play music, they only play in a certain format, which doesnt always actually USE 7.1,or 5.1 for that matter.

As far as games not working, can I suggest that you find a sound card [creative] that is compatible with your motherboard, and install it,cause with the hardware you have,it's a waste NOT to have a great soundcard as well.

I have a 5.1 logitech system and it's awesome[5 years old]....I have an audigy soundcard and it's great.I mostly use headphones, but it all works.

My suggestion[strong] is to get the latest soundcard[24-48bit] and get all latest driversyou cannot go wrong.Since you built the machine, you have already saved some dosh...May as well fork out and get an awesome soundcard with your new system.

Sorry if I have not been of any real help, but I have had this very problem in the past, and I feel your pain[lol] brother...

All the best.

I was planning to get a Nice sound card in a month or two and was quite content with the intergrated audio for the time being.

I just find it strange that all worked well on my previous system (Still a very nice i5 setup) but has decided to be a pain now.

What model Logitech 5.1's?

If your remote is like that, click the Matrix button and it will force 5.1 (not properly though... just sound coming out of all the speakers)

Make sure your coloured plugs are in the correct colour-corresponded jacks too... ;)

logitech z506 Speakers, No matrix mode with them.

And all the colours are matched up!! :p

OS is the same naughty version of windows 7 that was installed on my last computer.

I'm thinking that there should be a speaker fill option somewhere but can't seem to find it. Pretty much just forces the speakers into a matrix mode thing.

That isn't proper 5.1 though, it just sends what's coming out of the front speakers to the rear speakers.

You should just have to change settings in Realtek too, what you change there will change any similar Windows settings, but just to be safe make sure Windows isn't set to "headphones" or something stupid somewhere...

I'm using Realtek (6.0.1.6194) too and my set up works fine, btw there is a speaker fill option as well :)

For upmix to 5.1, you can select the "room" environment under the sound effects tab. Or if you've got an x-fi sound card, use cmss-3d. Generally though it doesn't sound as good as actual 5.1, so make sure in your games and stuff there's the 5.1 audio option ticked, if it supports it. If the application doesn't support 5.1, only stereo, then it'll just get upmixed with the above setting.

For better upmixing in movies and stuff, you can use ac3filter with media player classic - home cinema, with it selected to use 5.1. This will also be needed anyway if you have movies with 5.1 audio in it.

If you need help setting it up, just hit me up on xfire or something, since i've been messing with 5.1 stuff a lot lately...

Are you using the three coloured option,in terms of cables?

Also,is your windows 7 the 64 bit version?

Lol,now I HAVE to fix your friggin machine....

Orange -> Orange (Sub, centre)

Green -> Green (Front)

5.1 is side speakers (or "surround"), not rear speakers.

I meant that, Just had it stuck in my head because of the way they're set up. (more diagonalish behind me, no places for them either side.) :p

Also allowed me to fix a typo.

Ok after a driver update all the speakers are working fine in the test, but still nothing from my *Diagonal* speakers centre or bass in any applications.

Rage.

You set room for the environment?

Room is set to environment, still the same.

Speakers are still working in 7.1 but not 5.1.

Stupid realtek, Now I have to buy a Audio card next pay day instead of a guitar.

Hmm tinkering seems to have had an effect on all the speakers all work, but the sides sound a little flat..

But on that note it all works, Cheers for the inputs guys, it tokk a little bit of everyone to fix it. :p

A guitar will always bring you MUCH more satisfaction than a soundcard; After all,you are creating sounds, not recreating them for a stupid computer game...But hey, priorities, right?

All the best,bud.

Yeah well. Maybe one day in the perfect world one may be able to have both a guitar and a working 5.1 surround sound system.

Until then you will just have to choose one or the other.

Nothing at all fancy, Just a lower end Acoustic guitar to learn on.

Playing on a Crappy Discount store one at the moment and it sounds absolutely dreadful.
