PR on Windows 7 Home Premium

Hello hello~ BigD :hi:

I will be getting a New Pc in 2 weeks (yeay!! :db: )

But I just wanted to make sure If Bf2: PR would work fine

with Win7 Home. I noticed Home doesn't support Windows Xp Compatibility thingy. (Flame me if I'm wrong :disgust: )

Are there any known issues running PR with Win7 Home? Or Do I have to get

Professional or Ultimate?

BTW Here's The Specs

Any Suggestions would be gladly accepted

Should work alright. That GPU card is half a year old but has good reviews.

No idea about the motherboard.

Windows should be fine whatever you get. Arma2 demands quite a lot - but that said my machine with a E8400 works fine. My GPU is a 4870. Can't max it out, but it is fine for my taste.

Not too bad, although that powersupply scares me a bit... and I haven't really heard much/anything about the AsRock 770 series... was it recommended to you by someone?

I didn't know you were from Korea though, I thought you were Malaysian

And to answer your question, you should have no dramas with win7 HP (get 64bit)

Yeah, XP compatibility mode or w/e is only in the ultra high cost one but you don't need it. You only need to go into the icon properties and click run in XP and click run in XP compatibility mode (ahh got the first one wrong but you get the picture). All versions come with the second one and it's all you need - I've been using Home Premium just fine.

Just one thing with 7, Make sure you install BF2 and PR using the 'Run As Administrator' setting to avoid problems and such. I had to reinstall PR entirely because I didn't do that.

For some reason the Yanks love hearing about that one time...

This, Also when you launch mumble and PR do both in Admin or Mumble will refuse to sync.

um... then do you mean I need to get more than 500w?

And yeah the Mobo was suggested by my friend

Oh wow you can read korean?

@Xavo, Fox, Cow

Thanks for the heads up. I'll sure won't forget to do run it in admin mode.

Good thing I can run it fine on Win7 Home. That will save me at least around a 100 bucks.

@SamEEE

Ah ok. Didn't realize the 460 is already 6months old

My my technology... If I do get a newer GPu any Suggestions?? :cowboy:

Cheerz everybody

P.S Think my Mobo ain't that popular.

Any Mobo that you guys might want to suggest?

-Anybody else Korean around here?-

As pysrus stated earlier your best bet would be 64bit, Im pretty sure "Home premium?" would work well for you?

The tech isn't really rapidly expanding at the moment so the card will probably be okay. That said its always nice to know ones options.

AMD 5850 is a nice card. That is probably what I would get if I was in the market. Or a 5870, but that is more expensive.

I have the 460 1gb. Not able to afford upgrading every three weeks

to the latest GPU here, though.

It works just fine with PR on win 7 x64 here.

I have the 460 on a system that is around 3 to 4 years old and running Win 7. No problems at all.

I have the 460 1gb

This is a brilliant piece of GPU, <$200 AUS, Faster than 4870, great bang for buck, highly recommended.

Getting Airborne since 2009

ATI 6950 or ATI 6870? Both great cards

I have a 6870. Got it just before chrissy, and they are only new as well, and still REALLY cheap. Running this on my new system as well, built at the same time, x64 Windows 7.

yeah but this is the internet' date=' you have to expect the unexpected or else you'll get caught out by things you should've expected but didn't. Sweet Thanks all

Then I guess I'll stick to Win7 Home x64

oH I forgot to add.

I'm thinking of a VGA that costs around US $200.

The 6950 Looks great but I am aiming for a bit little cheaper

Oh but does PR crash time to time with quad cores?

CTDs and stuff

Oh and one more. Is the DSP worth it? Or should I just get

a Non-Dsp version?

Not 100% but I think Psyrus has a quad-core he plays PR on...

"When you have to kill a man, it costs nothing to be polite."

I have the PT6 MB with quad core and all good.
“The biggest troublemaker you'll probably ever have to deal with,"Watches you from the mirror every morning'.”
um... then do you mean I need to get more than 500w?

And yeah the Mobo was suggested by my friend

Oh wow you can read korean?

Well the Gigabyte/Asus 870/880 range get recommended way more often than the ASRock from my experience...

The Asus M4A87TD-USB3 comes highly recommended by WP, however I've always been a bit of a GB fanboi as they've treated me very well for 5 motherboards in different PCs now, so I sometimes throw in the option of the Gigabyte GA-880G-UD3H for a similar price. They're all very similar at that end of the market, so don't worry too much.

As for the PSU, it's all about quality, not quantity with PSUs. 500W is ample, assuming that the powersupply can reliably output that without working itself to the bone and dying a few years later :) 80+ Bronze certified is the lowest I recommend, something like the Antec TruePower NEW 550, or Seasonic M12II 520W would serve that (and upgrades) well.

The GTX460 (1GB) and HD6850 are neck and neck in ARMA2 performance and both are roughly the same price, so yeah pick whatever.

What is a DSP?

Not 100% but I think Psyrus has a quad-core he plays PR on...
Yeah PR has been fine on two separate Q6600s (1x 3ghz, 1x3.2ghz) and a i7 920 (3.6ghz), all quads and no dramas whatsoever.

Don't go with the ****ty no name PSU, as Psyrus said, Quality over quantity.

I just replaced a PSU (Only 9 months old) in a PC i'm selling and it fixed all the issues I was having, GPU not getting enough power, etc.

PSU is probably one of if not the most important things in a computer. It has the potential to screw up so many parts and cause the most obscure hard to solve problems...

I wouldn't skimp on it.

Glad the Quad Cores are safe.

Think I always had to shut down one of my cores (E4500) to get PR work with out CTDing.

Quality over Quanity Ok !

Aight. I was just gonna get a cheap ****ty one

but Wow guess i was gonna make a very big mistake.

Does it hurt if I get the exact amount of watt the Vga needs?

Seems like the GTX460 needs 450w. Should I get a 500w and play safe?

Never mind about the DSP.. I changed my mind to get a Non-DSP version.

The DSP comes at a cheaper price but if you change your hardware a litte bit the OS won't recognize it and not work. So it's like I have to stick with this biuld all the way. I might get future upgrades so I won't be getting a DSP xD.

I like that Antec True Power you recommended me Psyrus but It seems like they don't have that exact product in Korea. So the Antec Products Are pretty reliable?

P.S Sorry My English ain't that good xD

http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/graphics/2010/07/12/nvidia-geforce-gtx-460-graphics-card-review/11

The GTX460 at load will pull around 130-180W of power, so 500W will be more than sufficient. They put such high wattage requirements on the graphics cards because of people like yourself buying no-name cruddy ones that have very little amperage given to the 12v Rail... so they overestimate so that even if the distribution sucks, the PSU should still be able to power the GFX.

There's a lot of Antec PSUs I wouldn't recommend, so I'd say you should double check about the TRUEPOWER, because they're highly recommended. The corsair HX series or anything by Seasonic is good too :)

Nah just learning Japanese, but I had a lot of Korean students and I enjoyed listening to them, and tried to date a Korean girl (but she wasn't too interested after a couple of dates lol ), and I can recognize quite a few characters now but I don't know what they mean yet :( After Japanese I will learn Korean and come teach English there :) Also 소녀시대 are gorgeous ;) (well not all but at least 50%)
