Scotch recommendations

Hey all, been trying to think of a nice smooth scotch to try. Normally go for JW Black, but am willing to try others. Ideas/suggestions?

I've tried gold label, and once you taste it, you can't go back to black.

Give Dimple a crack.

Pushing 55$ bottle, but very smooth and not malty.

I find its best to start on the good stuff, and finnish on the home still.

Tried Dimple a while back, may have to have another go...

Anything by JW is overpriced and horrid. For the same price of blue/gold label you can get FAR better scotch. However if you are looking for something cheaper, Glen Moray or some Laphroaig are quite tasty for their price range.

I don't mind a drop of Glenfiddich

15 year old Glenfiddich is a good one. Exponentially better than the 12 but no where as expensive as the others.

If you're into drinking Whiskeys without mixers, hit up http://www.singlemalt.com.au/

They're not a company, they're a cooperative, so their interest is in providing quality Whiskeys that you wouldn't be able to get elsewhere. They can import Whiskeys that you wouldn't be able to get anywhere else in Australia.

No cost to join, no obligation to order. If you see a monthly special that you like, just order it and you're done.

I've ordered a couple of bottles through them and have nothing but good things to say about them.

This month's special is a 1993 Ardmore from Gordon & Macphail. If the drink isn't enough for you, it comes with some fancy gift wrapping and 2 free crystal tasting glasses: http://www.singlemalt.com.au/store/product_info.php?products_id=122

My favorite.

Neat or a bit of water. I do like it over one or two ice cubes as well. Love this stuff a lot, I wish I had some now.

Visited the local a week to two (maybe three?) back and was really wanting to pick up a nice single malt but funds were limited and spotted a label I hadn't seen before, Naked Scot. Cost $40 so was cheaper than JW Black which use to be my staple scotch of choice but this . . . this is much nicer, even tho its a blend it doesn't have that harsh alcoholic burn like the JW does, is a little sweet but is a very nice drop by itself or with a cube of ice or two. [edit] - Stabby, I plan to join that Single Malt club as for $79/mth it is a cheap way of getting a nice collection of singles :hi:

[editedit] - Glenfiddich 12 isn't too bad either.

I was over in Perth for work and was feeling adventurous, so picked a random off the shelf of a restaurant I was eating at - Laophraigh 10yo. It's an Islay single malt, very smoke, very rich flavors. A single drop of water really unlocks all of the flavors, and it goes off on the rocks.

It's a bit strong to have straight, and it is a bit costly ($100 for 700ml) but if you're after something with a big bite to it, give it a go.

If you are in Perth again there is a Whiskey bar there with a fantastic selection.

They also have lockers so you can buy a bottle and leave it in your cubby to enjoy when you are back. It's down some alley near the CBD and I had a great time there.

I especially loved going there in my suit to see the look of shock on their faces when they ask me what I do. They can't believe that I scaffold.

What; dirtbags can't own an expensive suit and like nice things?

Prolly on King St or off one of the tiny alleys on that.

Kinda like a classy 'cashed up bogan' eh? (o;

Not kinda, more like exactly.

You've seen the truck I just got. :)

I just need a ridiculously huge aerial for it. I also plan on BIGGER TYRES!

Interesting bogan article.

On another bogan note, looks like I'll have to drop scaffolding and drive haul packs for awhile. At least I'll be out of the cold.
