i dont see why people hate them so much, and hate that they are revenue raising, hell if you dont speed then you dont pay sh*t! the cops need extra funding one way or another, its either this or more taxes, well thats my view on it anyway lol.

Bloody kristina keneally.

Drivers will not be warned before driving into the mobile speed camera's zone. A small sign on the vehicle reads: "Safe speed check". Another sign placed at the roadside will inform motorists: "Your speed has been checked."

There's the problem with it. You're not really meant to take photos of people without their permission, hence the multiple signs in the lead up to fixed speed cameras, notifying drivers that they will have their photo taken.

By not telling them, you tend to get rid of that right (not sure if it is a right, but I think it is. Its definitely a civil liberty though :p ). But then it's said that if you're speeding, you deserve to not find out. Which is basically saying that 'since you're a criminal, you don't deserve rights', which kinda doesn't work with our whole free country thing we've got going on.

And in related news, I hear that KK is upping the fine for not travelling on either (not too sure which one) the left hand side of the road or in the left lane from around $250 to $1000, and putting up the demerit points lost to 4.

All that for a road rule which is minor (when compared to things such as speeding, drink driving, etc.)

And I've just realised that shes called the next state election two months before i can do my bit for NSW. :disgust:

Exactly! Also don't have a problem with the lack of a warning sign. Warning signs are akin to the news reports saying police will be checking for knives at X train station tomorrow- thus allowing those who reguarly carry weapons to avoid the area!

The only problem I have with those cameras was the recent statement about wanting to lower the cutoff to ~4km/hour over. A bit too harsh IMO given that a moment of inattention toward your speedo puts you over. Even the width of the needle could do you over with that.

What concerns me is the rate of Speed limit change on particular roads and the quality of speed cameras.

Speeding doesnt cause deaths, its the lack of peoples ability to control the vehicle that causes deaths. Its the operator's fault, not the vehicle's ... any man can blame his tools. I think rather than all these anti-speeding things, it should be about getting every driver into a defensive driving course, and offer more if they want.

Look at Germany for example, the Auto-Bahn or whatever its called. It has no speed limit, yet hardly any crashes. Thats because ALL of the drivers in Germany have had defensive driver training, otherwise you couldnt get a German license. Its one of the safest roads in the world. Why can't Australia learn from this? We have brand new roads in Brisbane and Melbourne that are up to, if not better than the standards of German roads, but instead we still aim on stopping 'speeding' and not getting those one-arm-driving and texting and drinking and eating and tailgating and just plain dangerous drivers off the road and into a defensive driver training course to lean how to driver properly.

yeah but this is the internet' date=' you have to expect the unexpected or else you'll get caught out by things you should've expected but didn't. Its exactly like knowing about the stuff you dont know about, that way you know theres stuff you dont know so when you know what you dont know you can say "ah i knew that!"[/quote']
something that was not appropriate for these forums.

QFT: if you dont get pissed off when you lose you dont care enough

NSW have been planning these mobile cameras now for 3 years.

The NSW government claim they are not into revenue raising however about 2 years ago the fine from 0-15 klm over the limit were about $89 & i think 2 maybe 3 points so the government then said they would give the motorists a fair go.

They reduced the points to 1 for 0-10 klm over the limit & the fine stays as is.

now we have mobile speed cameras which are booking people for 3-4 klm over the limit.

so the government can now book you 12 times before you lose your licence for a grand total of $1068 instead of the old schedule (based on 2 points) of $534.

And thats not revenue raising!!!

no wonder macquarie bank what to buy the speed camera company!!

I wont go political however nsw is not a good place to run a business.

I don't see why Madhouse's post was removed...

Don't speed and you won't have any trouble avoiding fines, if you do speed your stupid and should be put down. I've had so many family members die because if ******** on the road :(

This thread is being watched closely.

Speeding is not a major contributing factor to accidents, contrary to popular belief.
Oh speeding kills less people than drink-driving does, so that makes it ok to do, I didn't realise that's how it worked!

I'm not talking going 200 in a school zone, they are booking people now for 3-4kmh over the limit. To pass registration your cars speedometer can be off by 10%.

Don't bother replying 'da law iz da law' either. I'm with you on that with most issues, this though is pure BS.

Don't know where you got all that from. People in public have no right not to be photographed unless there's some reasonable expectation of privacy. (e.g. in public toilets)

Basically if the photographer is on public land, (s)he can generally photograph what they wish. If it's reasonable to view with the eye, why is it not reasonable to capture with a camera?

Speeding is not a major contributing factor to accidents, contrary to popular belief.

How? Evidence?

Speeding doesnt cause deaths, its the lack of peoples ability to control the vehicle that causes deaths. Its the operator's fault, not the vehicle's ... any man can blame his tools. I think rather than all these anti-speeding things, it should be about getting every driver into a defensive driving course, and offer more if they want.

Speeding is a contributing factor because as speed increases, the level of ability required to control the vehicle increases. Likewise the amount of time one has to react if something goes wrong is also drastically reduced. You can't say that an improved driving ability would've improved reaction time by the X amount which was required to stop or safely avoid a collision.

Another point is that driving "ability" is a subjective construct that cannot be easily quantified. Speeding is an objective, quantifiable measure. So which variable would you prefer to dictate whether a driver is at fault for causing injury or death on the roads? And so for which variable to employ control measures that aim to minimize the risks?

This reasoning you've given is too much along the lines of an excuse. Speeding is speeding. It doesn't matter if Schumacher is driving or a 90 year old blind granny.

I do agree we need more defensive driving courses but do you really think that a defensive driver course is going to stop that one arm texting driver from driving dangerously? Hell no, thats only going to give them an excuse along the lines of "well i did a driving course so I'm a really good driver so its ok..."

At least they have got something right, going to mobile units rather than stationary ones. Stationary cameras have little effect on peoples driving habits apart from them slowing down on the 50m stretch of road where the camera is and speeding again straight after.

If you dont know where a mobile camera is going to be then if you do speed, the risk of you getting caught increases and your driving habits will change to match this. If you dont, when you do get caught you will change.

In victoria there are no warning signs before speeding cameras...learnt that the hard way on my first trip down to melbourne.

The amount over the limit is too low, but, if you normally dont speed and get caught then getting off the fine is very simple.

If you want to know how, ask me. I´ve got out of 2 tickets, 400$ and 150$, so far and my cousin used the same to get off a pretty big speeding ticket....you just know how to use the system ;) that they use to get us and our money.
