Posted June 21, 201014 yr If some of you remember I had taken a break from PR and the forums due to moving to WA from Victoria. I was with Telstra the single worst telecoms company on the planet..... Well, I had suspended my account awaiting a fixed address and had no active service to my former address. Months later I had called up to reactivate and was told that I had not been paying my bill and therefore could not be activated. This was a big surprise for me and then I went through a long drawn out shenanigan of getting it sorted out by phone. After countless calls to Telstra I had finally been told that everything was fine and they wiped out a debt that I should not have had in the first place. This was after being transferred all over the place and disconnected so many times I racked up over $200 in phone usage pay as you go credit. Given the excessively poor customer service I decided to go with the competition and not reconnect with Telstra. I was told I couldn't use my old account anyway because of the problems and would have to create a new one. Yeah, after the extreme difficulty of what should have been a simple resolution and a reconnection of my service there was no way Telstra was getting my business again. This was now over a year ago and while Telstra knew my current address they chose not to call me nor send a bill saying I owed them money that I don't anyway. Instead I get a letter from a collection agency....... I keep on top of all my bills and had they even once sent me a outstanding bill letter I would have been straight back on the phone wondering what is going on and why; after all the time on the phone this is still an issue? Check your number here, then choose from anyone that can give you ADSL2+ [except TPG/Dodo/AAPT/Primus/Telstra/andmaybeOptus] or - Internode - iiNet Telstra do have an interesting $100 and $200 bundle plan coming out with 100 & 200GB respectively, line rental included and free calls to local, national and [Telstra // All] mobiles [respectively]. I have had many issues with them and only just told them to bugger off completely a couple of months ago. You did well. I would have recommended to TIO as well. I get letters for a previous tenant from one of these debt collection agencies - they never turn up, they just send letters to people who don't live here anymore. I've shown him the page on Whirlpool numerous times showing him the better deals that internode provide with better speeds... Telstra has a cap too... in fact their caps are way smaller, and they charge more for those smaller caps... tell him that. Check there plan to see if it suits your usage but its one way to be mostly free of Telstra. In fact most of the bigger isps will do phone services as well and usually they will give a discount off your net if you bundle phone too. :hi:

You pay for the line rental ,phone provisioning and adsl. your phone line will have dialtone and can make calls out and in. With naked adsl you dont have the phone service connected. You pay a single fee (which includes a reduced rental of the line) for adsl only. There is no dial tone and you cant make or recieve calls. Often people use a voip service through the adsl modem for phone calls. So if you are paying Telstra $30 for line rental (for a phone you dont use) plus$60 to an isp for adsl you could instead pay say $70 just to your isp just for net (often with an increase in download limets). Not all isps can provide naked internet . internode netspace iinet and many other do but only at exchanges where they have there own equipment. If your connected on a rim or cmux you wont be able to get naked. As always ymmv, do your research first before you change . :hi: Edited June 22, 201014 yr by Shifty.au
