May 12, 201014 yr You can probably get a a better mobo for that price. Is there an MSY near you? They are out in Balcatta so not too far from Perth. They have great prices. http://msy.com.au/ Location WA. http://www.msy.com.au/LOCATION/balcatta.htm Parts price list. http://www.msy.com.au/Parts/msy.htm Otherwise that's a rig I would be proud to call mine so I hope he loves it. May 12, 201014 yr Change the ram to Kingston DDR3 1333mhz - $200 http://www.staticice.com.au/cgi-bin/search.cgi?q=6gb+ddr3+state%3Awa&spos=1 [save ~$100] Change the Hard drive to 2x500GB WD FALS - $120 http://www.staticice.com.au/cgi-bin/search.cgi?q=500GB+wd+state%3Awa&spos=1 [save $140] Add GSkill Falcon II 64GB SSD - $230 http://www.staticice.com.au/cgi-bin/search.cgi?q=falcon+ssd+state%3Awa&spos=1 Change power supply to a Seasonic X650 or X750 (I run a higher system on a HX520) - $206-$230 http://www.staticice.com.au/cgi-bin/search.cgi?q=Seasonic+x+state%3Awa&spos=1 [save $30] So you get a better/equivalent PC for $50 saving If you drop the SSD and just go the RAID/non raid hard drives you'll come in ~$60 under budget, which is always good. http://i235.photobucket.com/albums/ee94/psyrus_uraya/awards-1.png QFT: Your computer is smart man. May 12, 201014 yr Author thanks for the replys I found the motherboard here : http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/x58-usb-3.0-sata-6-gbps,2614-15.html which one would you suggest ? Edited May 12, 201014 yr by Orenji [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
May 12, 201014 yr The motherboard is good for the price IMO. We'll see what smokejumper suggests though And as an FYI, you can get the i7 930 for less than $340 in WA, don't pay $370 for it Also, I'd buy local for the HD5870... you really don't want a DOA one from interstate that you have to go through warranty for and be graphics-card-less for 2+weeks while the system is sitting there. Trust me... been there done that, just pay the WA premium ($~525ish) IMO [unless MSY has stock, then $459 ]. http://i235.photobucket.com/albums/ee94/psyrus_uraya/awards-1.png QFT: Your computer is smart man. May 12, 201014 yr Author Thanks for that but isn't the kingston RAM DDR3-1333 9-9-9-24 slower then Corsair DDR3-1600 8-8-8-24 I am a little bit confused with the numbers  Thanks for the hint with staticice.com.au and msy but he is planing to buy the parts from his neighbour who's running a computer shop ...so no problems with delivery. He usually gives him a discount on the lot Edited May 12, 201014 yr by Orenji [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
May 12, 201014 yr Wow those prices are really high? You dont know anywhere you can get them from for cheaper?? Espicially the CPU and GPU getting mad for peoples amusement
May 12, 201014 yr Thanks for that but isn't the kingston RAM DDR3-1333 9-9-9-24 slower then Corsair DDR3-1600 8-8-8-24 I am a little bit confused with the numbers  It's not slower. It has a lower frequency and higher latency. Since your friend isn't even picking his own components I daresay he's not going to be doing much overclocking, nevermind ram timing adjustments. As smokejumper will hopefully attest, when I say don't bother with 1600mhz ram... don't bother! Thanks for the hint with msy but he is planing to buy the parts from his neighbour who's running a computer shop ...so no problems with delivery. He usually gives him a discount on the lot Well no offense to your friend's neighbour... but if the price is lower at a different component store, you should shop there. At the very least his neighbour should match the lowest in-stock prices in WA if he's really your friend's friend. My question is: Why pay $2200 for the exact same thing which could cost you $1900? http://i235.photobucket.com/albums/ee94/psyrus_uraya/awards-1.png QFT: Your computer is smart man. May 12, 201014 yr Author true..I will tell him to get his parts from the cheapest place thanks for clarifying the thing with the ram..and no he is definitely not going to overclock is system. and i just saw right now that the amount didn't come up in the original post. its 2 hard drives for $140 each Edited May 12, 201014 yr by Orenji [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]

May 12, 201014 yr true..I will tell him to get his parts from the cheapest place Good! I hate it when people get ripped off just because they refuse to let go of ignorance thanks for clarifying the thing with the ram..and no he is definitely not going to overclock is system. Then to be honest he could do with 1066mhz ram, but I recommend kingston 1333mhz for 2 reasons over 1066mhz: - It is cheaper to buy 1333mhz than 1066mhz 6GB kits in WA - It gives you some headway if he wants to experiment with a no frills overclock down the track (say taking it to 3ghz or something). and i just saw right now that the amount didn't come up in the original post. its 2 hard drives for $140 each Yeah I gathered that, but does he have 2TB worth of data that he needs to transfer now? Storage is always getting cheaper, like in the order of ~10-25% cost per gigbyte lower per quarter. With storage I can't stress enough: Buy the best $/GB at your time of purchase, to fulfill your current and immediate future needs. Purchase more, cheaper storage in the future when you need it. Also you're getting majorly ripped off for 1TB @ $140. Netplus sells 2TB WD drives for $150 each... [and yes I realize it's the difference between 7200rpm and adaptive 5400rpm but you don't buy a 1TB drive as an OS drive, that's lunacy!] In case you didn't notice, in all my posts there is stuff underlined... that means I've linked you to prices/info about what I'm talking about to prove to you I'm not pulling it out of my posterior. May 12, 201014 yr Author Yea i figured that out ;-) I also appreciate the help and effort you put into this. He still got a smaller drive to put the OS on and I chose the drives because they have a 6gb/s SATA III interface. The motherboard has got 2 x 6gb/s connectors I was always found WD very good and reliable. Edited May 12, 201014 yr by Orenji [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
May 12, 201014 yr Yea i figured that out ;-) I also appreciate the help and effort you put into this. It's my pleasure, PC hardware & tinkering is a pastime of mine so I get a kick out of getting people the best bang for buck with their purchases. He still got a smaller drive to put the OS on and I chose the drives because they have a 6gb/s SATA III interface Well in that case I definitely recommend taking my advice from before then! Maybe change it to a single 1TB intellipower drive for $89 then. The reason I say this is because 7200RPM drives max out at about 100mB/s throughput on the inner platter, with burst rates of ~120-140mB/s. SATAII 3gb/s can transfer at 375mB/s theoretically, so that's about 3+ times faster than what hard drives can put out. So what that means is that for a normal 7200rpm hard drive, the difference between SATAII and SATAIII is.. nothing! Even my solid state drive can only do about 220mB/s, so it hasn't exceeded the bandwidth available on SATAII. Just about the only thing that will use the full SATAII bandwidth is a ramdrive. So seriously... please consider my recommendation for hard drives of: - 1x 1TB intellipower or even a 7200rpm one ($89-120 depends on which u pick) - 1x 64GB solid state drive falcon II (about $250-270 where you buy it) http://i235.photobucket.com/albums/ee94/psyrus_uraya/awards-1.png QFT: Your computer is smart man. May 12, 201014 yr asrock X58 is $250 with sata3 corsair has a better warranty but 1333mhz is all you need! Psyrus has the right storage solution! speed over space anyday! (burn a disc) Enermax Revolution, 3year warranty best psu on he market! silver80+ ATI5870 of your choice, stock is genraly safer for future crossfire. silent hawk with it's tripple slot cooling?? it's only a 5850? <not sure about that1 but I like the look of it case, my personel choice TJ07 silverstone or Corsair Obsidian 800D, the ellement G or similler if your on a tight budget
May 12, 201014 yr ah ok ta for the explenation have you got your OS on a SSD or would you recommend to put just games on there and the OS on a smaller one? Definitely the OS on the SSD, the 4-64kb read speeds with virtually 0 seek time do wonders for your OS experience. Besides assisting in loading times & hdd bottlenecked games like ARMA2, the SSD won't improve frame rates. It will simply make your windows install fly along though http://i235.photobucket.com/albums/ee94/psyrus_uraya/SSD-Perf.png Oh and SSDs are best paired with windows 7, fyi Edited May 12, 201014 yr by Husker http://i235.photobucket.com/albums/ee94/psyrus_uraya/awards-1.png QFT: Your computer is smart man. May 12, 201014 yr As smokejumper will hopefully attest, when I say don't bother with 1600mhz ram... don't bother! Yep, I have 1600mhz RAM and when you boot up you will notice it come up at 1066. Sooo, wondering what they hell is it at that for I went into the BIOS and turned it up to what I paid for which someone told me later is overclocking your CPU. I got the awesome blue screen of death and had to go back and mess around some more trying to remember what I did. That said, I think I'm going to get some better cooling and have another go. May 12, 201014 yr Seasonic PSU, thats the first Gold rated I have seen and it's well priced but IMHO is under powerd and doesn't state it's max burst, if it was my machine I would still go with the enermax knowing that it wouldn't ever sweat under load and thier for not winde the noise up but the fact it's $70 bucks cheaper maybe be the deciding factor the enermax will burst at well over 1000whatts if the seasonic had an 850 at a similler price then I would maybe change to that, the enermax only gets to +35db at around 1200W, the seasonic on the other hand won't get 850W but then that system doesn't need that much whattage. IMO you need to double what you think you need when it comes to power as it limits "power ripple". Seasonics 5year warranty is also something to keep in mind, a good power surply would outlast most componants in a gamers system if baught correctly the Asrock has all the features including raid and all the stuff that comes with the X58+ICH100 chipset just much much cheaper. oh and I was really surprised at the quality of the cooling on the rig that I last helped install an asrock in(Trades machine) he has had nothing but joy from it! lifetime for corsair I have only ever had to RMA a couple of kits(3years in the machine) they came back to me in less than 3 weeks all new kits but I had upgraded and they are now in mrSnuff's machine and working a treat. as it's not your machine that your building McCloud, maybe price over quality. annad for the best reviews!! and PCCASEGEAR for my pricing(my OL shop of choice)

May 13, 201014 yr The G500 Logitech mouse after I have been getting used to it is awesome. MSY has them in stock as of Tuesday when I bought mine. Yeah I just bought a G500 two weeks ago to replace my aging G5 and I'm quite happy with it. The new extreme 5700 DPI is way excessive but hilarious when someone is gonna use the computer and you put it on 5700... about 0.5cm of mouse movement is one side of the screen to the other, so it makes for some good lols (except when Jerrif does it to me when I'm not looking :disgust:) The weights are still a gimmick but I do like a heavy mouse, and the extra side buttons mean that I now have: - BF2 voip - TS - Mumble all accessible from the side of my mouse, which is really convenient! Oh and the ultra low 200dpi setting is great for sniping shots, even with just iron sights, it's basically pixel by pixel shot adjustment :hi: Edit: I hate the new web browser-based Setpoint GUI though  Edited May 13, 201014 yr by Husker http://i235.photobucket.com/albums/ee94/psyrus_uraya/awards-1.png QFT: Your computer is smart man.
