Posted April 26, 201015 yr Hey guys, I'm going to do some googling now, but we've had a problem with the kitchen light. It is 2 fluorescent lights, shorter than normal ones and recently one has died. So Dad and I replaced them with new ones, and new starters. However the new starters don't work. The guy at the hardware store said they would, because the old ones were S2 type and the new ones are S10 type. The S10 cover a larger range of wattages than the old ones, so AFAIK it should work, but it doesn't. So as a last resort we put the old starters back in and after a bit of fiddling, they work. Although they seem to be having a little bit of trouble starting the lights (probably because they are really old). So if anyone knows anything about fluorescent starters, S2 and S10 types - whatever that means - could you please try and explain it for me. Much Appreciated. Ok, the S2's are 4 - 22W starters. the S10's are 4 - 65W starters. The tubes are only 18W, so theoretically they should work? Oh and BTW, the brand is Phillips. April 26, 201015 yr Author Think I've answered this myself. Pretty sure that the S10's are for when there is 1 starter for 2 tubes. Meaning they need a higher voltage. The S2's are for 1 tube between 4 and 22watts. Our setup is 2 18W tubes, with a starter each. So I think this is why the S10's don't work. If anyone would care to explain further, it's pretty interesting I think. http://i.imgur.com/DtNdckc.png [WC]Xavo|xXx:
