I've been having problems with my internet connection over the past 3 or 4 weeks, but only in specific conditions.

 

All my internet browsing and downloading appears to be working fine.

The problems are with multiplayer games and some other programs. The server browser is very slow in Project Reality, and when I join BigD it says my ping is 20m/s on average, but I get the notifications saying 'There is a Problem with your Connection' and eventually drop out.

This is the same for Modern Warfare 2 where I can't get into games, and I couldn't even start Bad Company 2 because it couldn't connect to the steam servers (this is when I first noticed the problem). Also, in Teamspeak 3 I can't hear people (although I think they can hear me), all I hear when people speak is a weird clicking sound. However Ventrilo works perfectly well, with my ping around 16ms.

 

Since these problems I have formatted my computer and even installed a brand new version of Windows 7, something I wanted to do for a while and decided to do it seeing as it may solve the problem. At the moment I have only a few programs and I tested to see if the problem was fixed by using TS3 and MW2. Needless to say I still have the problem and don't know where to start.

 

I think it may be a firewall issue with the modem/router or something but I have absolutely no idea. I can't remember anything I did that would have caused the problem. Help is very much appreciated.

Definitely sounds like a router issue to me. Do you know anyone you could swap routers with (preferably to a different brand but with similar specs)?

Well we've had the same router for a long time, then when it started my brother bought a new router, but it was the exact same model. That didn't fix anything. I'll try and find out about getting another one but obviously a solution that doesn't involve forking out more cash would be preferable.

Which is why I clearly said swap routers with rather than rush out and buy a new one :disgust:

Yes I didn't mean to be rude I just meant its probably going to come to that... I'll try and see what I can do. I live in sydney though but I appreciate your help
