Posted April 19, 201015 yr The ram i bought says 1.6v but my motherboard says 1.5v. Whats the consequences of throwing that 1.6v ram in the slots of the 1.5v mobo? http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v390/pennywise_pw/pennywiseevilfun.png -Evi|. PR Captain
April 19, 201015 yr The manual that came with your motherboard should contain a list of RAM that is compatible with your board. Check that to see if it's compatible. What mobo and ram do you have? The motherboard would normally compensate for this. CaptainCleanoff on the servers.
April 19, 201015 yr Nothing should technically happen, as the RAM wants to draw 1.6v whereas the mobo can only provide 1.5v the only thing that may happen is it won't run as fast as advertised, nothing will blow up though.

April 19, 201015 yr Author sweet, just don't want to cook a mobo. is there anyway to up the dimm slot voltage? would this cook the board? http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v390/pennywise_pw/pennywiseevilfun.png -Evi|. PR Captain
April 19, 201015 yr Author http://gskill.com/products.php?index=221 my mobo isn't listed there. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v390/pennywise_pw/pennywiseevilfun.png -Evi|. PR Captain
April 19, 201015 yr http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/FileList/MemorySupport/mb_memory_ga-790xta-ud4.pdf There ya go. Like already mentioned, you should be fine though. Check the RAM Module P/N with the pdf list I provided. The Module P/N should be on the RAm packaging or on the RAM itself. CaptainCleanoff on the servers.
April 19, 201015 yr sweet, just don't want to cook a mobo. is there anyway to up the dimm slot voltage? would this cook the board? It's a gigabyte board so pretty much everything is changeable. This review stipulates you could push it to 2.445V if you wanted [but you wouldn't] http://ixbtlabs.com/articles3/mainboard/gigabyte-790xta-ud4-790x-p2.html Edit: It'll be under "M.I.T" or Intelligent Tweaker or something in the BIOS, listed as DRAM voltage. No, it's always ok to run too little power to a device, worst case scenario is that it doesn't work. Running too much (like 240v into a 110v device) results in some unpleasant smells and equipment that will not function again. http://i235.photobucket.com/albums/ee94/psyrus_uraya/awards-1.png QFT: Your computer is smart man.
