hey guys, a mate put me onto this, please use it as a reference only and let me know how it goes.. this is the email i received and wow... a few lag issues have been resolved.

 

Please note this was used on Vista ultimate 32 bit. But HAs now been proven and used on Win Vista/Seven/XP so... should be good for all !!

This is not a joke. I have been suffering from major lag for a long time, and I have FOUND the problem.

 

The issue is something known as the "Nagle Algorithm". Anyways I'll keep it simple, this algorithm was created years ago as a way of allowing a steady stream of data to use low bandwidth. It was designed for older dial up modems to prevent online games and other things sending large numbers of small packets from filling up your entire bandwidth sending "ACK Packets". What this does is automatically delay your computer from responding to a single packet by 200ms which allows your computer to respond to multiple packets at once using less bandwidth. What this essentially does, is add up to 200ms to your lag. If you want to know more, do some googling; I don't want to bore you.

 

Anyways, if you are on a modern broadband connection, you can DRASTICALLY improve your Mabinogi lag by disabling this algorithm. I am unsure of how to do this in Windows Vista, but in Windows XP it is a simple registry edit.

 

1. Run Regedit

 

2. Browse to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters\Interfaces\

 

3. It gets tricky here, there be a bunch of Folders with letters and numbers under this Key, you need to find the one that is your network adapter. Browse them one at a time and look for the ones with similar settings to your network, such as if you have an IP address or a Gateway manually set. If you are unsure, you could always just try adding the line to all of them.

 

4. Add a DWORD named TcpAckFrequency This is Case Sensitive. If it is already there, skip to step 5.

 

5. Set the Value of the DWORD to 1

 

6. Reboot your PC

 

After this, the Nagle Algorithm will be disabled.

 

If you wish to test your lag, the best way to do it is by casting the Healing spell. Try casting all 5 charges of your healing spell before this fix, then after. I guarantee you'll cast them twice as fast after this fix if you have had lag issues or are living on the east coast.

just had my first round on BC2 with this fix and they were dropping like flies !!!! guys !!! it works amazing !!!!!

 

Just tried with ARMA 2 and works well aswell, looks to be the fix of the century !!

edit: what is a list of good servers in australia? i normally use my history or search AUS in the server browser...

 

a common problem i get it i join a server with 16 ping, get in and actually have at least 150 to 300 ms latency

 

edit: played on server for the last hour... on about 80 (in game latency) (so whatever that really means: my time behind server or something??) either way this is the best ever get and overall i see no noticeable improvement from before. not to say it didn't work or doesn't work, just reporting my results

Ingame ping isn't latency, it's a measurement of how far behind the client is to the server.

soo all day ive been 500ms behind the server :/

BC2 right? BF2 is actual latency.

guys as i said, its for reference only. Me and stalks have now used it and have noticed considerable changes so... without the negatives.. if it works for you well it works.. if not.. well, all well and good, but dont give me curry for tryin to help ! make sure you make the right changes to your reg and it should/does make a difference so what more can i say.

I found that Fallujah West ran a little smoother after this tweak.

Aye, No improvement for ping, but insted of taking 10 seconds for all the objects and such to load in a map, now it's just *Snap* done. Bloody terrific find this one, I swear, the game runs so much smoother for me now.

anyone tested it with a 64 bit OS yet? I'm not game to try..

This is old old news, I did this years ago for halving my ping on WoW for competitive raiding, definatly works.

ohhh Snap !!! it may be a little old but i certainly never heard of it.. then again i never got into WOW so.... not saying you did but as per my original post the email was from a WOW Feind.

 

As for Shady, Dude i cannot say yes or no to ur 64 bit question but as your only adding a line to the registry and not Editing one.... you wont get hurt trying.

No, trust me, it does work, Chrisso did it for me using Teamviewer in like 2minutes, 2minutes for something that can enhance your gameplay is better than 300 - $500 on a new Gaming graphics card or ram. Try it all, it works so good. Apart from server lag on the North West side of Fallujah west, i experienced no lag what so ever. And on Kashan, flying the chopper was so smooth.

Will try and report back. Have been getting some annoying short lag spikes.

Im interested to see Psyrus' interpretation of the results. I forsee a possible placibo effect?

I don't see how it can change your FPS if its designed to improve latency..

This is a long known and well used fix ( both registry edit and Leatrix Latency Fix ) Both are proved to decrease pings in WoW and other FPS Games, as stated by whitey ur only 3-4 years late but people did not know about this so good post. I have used both on 32bit windows xp and 64 bit windows 7 and have not noticed any problems.

Give it a go, its easy to remove it you dont fix it ( del registry value or run uninstall script from leatrix)
