Hey guys,

So, I decided to get back into PR. The main reason I left was that I had a ****eful onboard sound driver and couldn't get any decent mic action.

Anyway, I got myself an Auzentech X-Studio 5.1 sound card this morning and appear to be having a bit of trouble with it all.

Basically, I have no sound. When I open the sound utility panel it appears that sound is being received by the driver but I'm not getting any output.

I'm running it on a Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3 motherboard. Any help would be greatly appreciated as you all know it's almost impossible to play PR without a mic.

Cheers!

It's so frustrating! I'm running 32bit XP and there is onboard sound. I'm not sure if my mobo is on the blink or whether there's a conflict between the new card and the onboard. I'm not the best at these things...

Hehe, join the club! (the sound issue thing, not the quitting)

What OS are you using?

Just to tell you, I got around my mic probs by dual booting into 32bit XP (I usually run windows 7 64 bit but my mic doesnt like it one bit).

It may have something to do with me having 4gb+ ram (see this thread) but then again, I'm not using Creative sound cards, just onboard from my Asus P6T mobo.

edit:

Wait.. so you don't get audio (eg: playing music, etc) or is it a mic problem?

On the topic of shiny auscam...

the sound they made while bush walking made it seem like I was doing mean things to little furry animals inside my pants :p

Go into the Volume panel down in the bottom right hand corner of the task bar (near the time), go into to options, then properties, make sure the mixer device for both recording and playback are set to your soundcard. Then, under recording, make sure that the 'Microphone' is the selected recording device ( and that it's in the right port in the soundcard, almost always on the far left/right).

Other way, go to Start menu > Control Panel > Sound and Audio Devices, go into the Audio tab, make sure the selected device is your soundcard under both recording and playback.

Disabled onboard sound - check!

Ok, I've got the mic working - the X-Studio 5.1 control panel is showing that it's receiving an input. Sound output is not working, however, even though the master volume slider is showing that there's something going on.

Ok, I got it all working!

I'm clearly an idiot - forgot to plug something else in etc etc. Thanks for the help guys! See you on the battlefield!

Have you disabled the onboard sound in the bios ?

^^^

First step to fixing your issue

Nice one RX :)

Edit: Appears to have been resolved... apparently the time old "are you sure it's plugged in" question would've been fit :p

QFT: Your computer is smart man. It tells you not to play the second worst PR map [burning Sands] (first is Wanda Shan).

QFT: if you dont get pissed off when you lose you dont care enough

Haha I didn't ask the "are you sure you've plugged it in correctly ?" as that seems rude to me but I guess there is always a time and a place for everything.

Good to hear you got it working from all I've heard about them the Azentech's are a good bit of gear too. I reckon you'll be impressed with the improvment over onboard.

Would be nice if you could tell us what you think of it after playing some time with it.

Yup, I'm a bit of a fool! I guess I was just a little too excited at the prospect of playing PR in almost two years!
