VERY similar to what i want. pretty much exact except for a different HDD brand and video card.

But why the ultimate version of windows 7?

You could probably go 64 bit home edition which is like 150 and spend a bit more on the GPU

My suggestions would be:

- Kingston ram @ $129 rather

- Don't buy win7 Ultimate

- Rather buy a Samsung 2233SW+ for the monitor

- I prefer Pioneer (218) dvd burners personally, but yeah never tried ASUS so I'm sure they're fine.

- Maybe get a nicer [brand] PSU with the money you save from the RAM & OS

- Consider upgrading your peripherals (mouse/kb) if you currently have 'meh' stuff

:)

QFT: Your computer is smart man. It tells you not to play the second worst PR map [burning Sands] (first is Wanda Shan).

QFT: if you dont get pissed off when you lose you dont care enough

My Suggestions (I'm by no means and expert - Go with Psyrus' advice as he knows a ton and half + more than me)

@Vapo - I would consider a Western Digital Caviar Black 1TB HDD $20 More if you can stretch your budget. (But I guess that your chosen HDD will suffice, it just seems that WD Caviar Black's are more popular)

Don't buy Ultimate (already been suggested)

From that particular site, I would suggest a Corsair 550W VX-550 ATX PSU as they are a more well known brand + they run quieter. (Remember, PSU's are one of the more important things in a computer as shoddy PSU's can fail and cause damage to other parts of your shiny new rig)

@Shady - A quick search on Whirlpool showed that there haven't been any major problems with the ModXstream power supplies. However a lot of the older Powerstream models had lots of problems I think.

These threads are little bit old

So have a read for yourself and see what you think. Personally in my own build, I would go for a Corsair or a Vantec Earthwatts PSU.

Now the list has these:

I can deal with any dvd burner as I dont use disks much and I can just swap it over with the pioneer dvd burner i got now.

Have I made a good choice on the Motherboard, CPU and GPU though?

Remember Im trying to stay at $1500, because if the Education Tax Refund comes round again this year, I can only claim that much (and get half back).

search around man, there are better prices out there. i have just looked at a few and have saved you 200 bux already. will reference these savings when i get home form work tom,

wait on.

Your CPU & motherboard choices are great. Don't fret on that, good setup that will overclock decently and has great performance out of the box.

GPU [5770] is very similar in performance to a 4890, which is a great card. The only downside is that with the P55-UD3 one of the PCI-E slots is constrained to 4x (for some retarded reason?) and as such it could bottleneck if you decide to add another 5770 in the future. But the primary PCI-E slot is 16x so no worries there. You could look at disregarding my advice below and buying a 5850 at an overinflated price, but I think you should stick to the 5770. There's always the option of selling on later ($100?) then purchasing the best bang-for-buck at the time :)

But, looking at your config and Netplus stock levels... I'd like to suggest a reshuffle...

Ok so $50 extra to spend with you reusing your current DVD burner. You have also picked a monitor that is out of stock which can be a pain (no ETA etc) so lets delete that and give you the $174 back. Now you can either get the $50 student version of windows, or since you're in perth I can sort you out with a very nice version ;). That gives you an additional $79 assuming you get the edu version

So you have $1500-1439 + 174 + 79 = $314 wiggle room for the monitor. In that price bracket, there's a lot of choice, some favorites being the 2333SW+, 2494HS, G2420HD... but then its up to you to decide on the various factors you want. Or you can go the cheap route on the monitor (benq 2220 or whatever) and see about spending up on the graphics card (or getting a second one right off the bat).

Vapo, can I just ask what sort of student you are? Highschool, Uni, Tafe? How do you claim this back on your tax? Do you need a taxfile number?

Thanks for any help.

They claim for it because they care for you, so they get the tax refund.

I got my new computer :D kinda

U see, I reasised that I was asking a bit too much from my parents as I dont have a job. So I went to a computer auction where i got all my computers from.

I was able to pick up a core2 duo 2.4ghz Hp Pavillion, 256mb 8400gs (same video card as before) damaged case with Vista Ultimate key for just over $200.

So far ive got 4gb of ram, downloaded and installed vista, and now im going to go get a new case and psu :) Not a bad buget PC if I say so myself

There comes a time in every musician's life when they must decide what instrument they should master. Few. If any are ever worthy enough to master. The cowbell.

If its a brand name motherboard you may wanna be careful if you add any extras.. A lot of the time they won't be compatible.

Thats Mainly Dell though..

Stupid Dell..

spew, yeah when we bought our server rack from there for work we rocked up after lunch and it was pretty quiet, think it was mostly corperate types there then.
