January 8, 201015 yr If it was the Space Shuttle, it'd be a Pentium 2 with 8mb of Ram and a 2gb HDD (: http://www.bigd.com.au/_bigdfiles/sigs/mh-sig-2016-11.png
January 8, 201015 yr If it was the Space Shuttle, it'd be a Pentium 2 with 8mb of Ram and a 2gb HDD (: wow NASAs really gone downhill these days [sIGPIC]C:\Users\Alex\Pictures\Forum Avatars\RealityMod\SuperHind-BigD.jpg[/sIGPIC]
January 8, 201015 yr Those things are old as... they have hardly been upgraded at all, mainly to do with todays general componets not able to be useable in space I believe.. must find source for that... http://www.bigd.com.au/_bigdfiles/sigs/mh-sig-2016-11.png
January 8, 201015 yr Really need 12Gb RAM? ~6Gb, 8 at the most. Go for a 5870 or 5850 (or crossfire some 5770's because I hear they are better than a 5870 ATM) Also make sure you factor in an Operating System and any peripherals (mouse, keyboard, joystick etc) http://i.imgur.com/DtNdckc.png [WC]Xavo|xXx:

January 8, 201015 yr Why 12GB of DDR3? Is he running a friggen enterprise or something lol? [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
January 9, 201015 yr 12GB of RAM is overkill, most ram intensive games now and in the future (2-3 years) will very rarely ever use half that. 4GB would be a safe bet but if you want a bit of future proofing then i'd go for 6GB. Also if you can wait a few months you could get a faster CPU (i7 930) for the same price as a i7 920 is now, the price of graphics cards which don't support dx 11 may also come down by then.
January 9, 201015 yr this is what i came up with when doing up my list . . . Rig 1: AMD Phenom II x4 965 $214 http://www.msy.com.au Asus M4A79T-Deluxe $230 2 x 4Gb DDR3 1333 Kingston $234 2 x WD 500Gb $128 2 x Asus 4890 1Gb $458 2 x BenQ G2420HD 24" LCD $452 Antec EarthWatts 750W $155 NZXT Whisper $179 (HIGHLY recommmend this case!) Win7 Pro 64b OEM $155 Sub $2,205 Rig 2: AMD Phenom II x4 965 $214 Asus M4A79T-Deluxe $230 2 x 4Gb DDR3 1333 Kingston $234 2 x WD 500Gb $128 Asus 4890 1Gb $229 BenQ G2420HD 24" LCD $226 Antec EarthWatts 750W $155 NZXT Whisper $179 Win7 Pro 64b OEM $155 Sub $1,750 only thing with that is they dont do the 4890 anymore so you could prolly get away with one of the 57xx/58xx cards instead. Bit more than $1500 for the last one but yeah, reckon it would be a solid build. nb - only have the case an psu atm as i had to get my old rig up n running quickly for the wife. Now she has a lappy i can get to work on upgrading my rig. There comes a time in every musician's life when they must decide what instrument they should master. Few. If any are ever worthy enough to master. The cowbell.
January 9, 201015 yr Are you a student or have access to a friend or family with an .edu email adress. If yes then you can save money by getting a student version of windows 7 for around $50. :hi:
January 9, 201015 yr So would that include my Shady.au@education.nsw. gov.au for free copies? Pretty sure that its tafe/uni though... Won't work Must find.. Family friend who goes to tafe and is computer illiterate.. Edited January 9, 201015 yr by f00bear http://i.imgur.com/zoL1k.png
January 9, 201015 yr Likewise my school ends in @######.qld.edu.au anyway, mcdeths rigs sounds pretty solid if you change the 4890 into 5770x2 for a bit more you could go the i5 i7 path but that's an extra couple of hundred. http://i.imgur.com/DtNdckc.png [WC]Xavo|xXx:
January 9, 201015 yr Yea keep ram 6-8GB there is heaps of reasons not to even bother with 12GB ram. When I first got 4gb ram most people were sitting on 1-2gb (most gamers) even now I've rarely exceeded ram usage. and one of the times was because i accidentally left crysis running in the background whilst playing cod4. 6gb is a strong foothold, 8GB is a worthy to be called comprehenive insurance for the next few years.
