I'm assuming this individual was banned on the spot, since he/she is technically cheating?

 

I'm also assuming anyone else running modified localisation files would also be banned immediately?

 

What's the official word on this?

Localisation files can be modded without being banned.

But since they aren't allowed in PR yes its modifying for the sake of having an unfair advantage.

I understand that vanilla is fine because the game tells you when you kill someone by design.

 

When PR is designed the opposite and the same localisation files are run, like you said, it's giving an unfair advantage which is basically, a 'hack'.

 

I expect the BigD admin team to issue a serverwide warning and permanently ban all users after that warning. Zero exceptions.

 

Personal opinion. Not demanding or anything, it's a serious issue, in my eyes.

But your not SUPPOSED to know if you killed someone! they were taken out so that you had to physically check if you killed an enemy.

The person the screenie belonged to was not banned, as there is no official ruling on their use yet.

I run a modded file...However this simply shows me ALL the Punkbuster checks on the servers..

Punkbuster checks the servers by checking each player on for all known hacks and illegal files.

It also shows the latest bans that have been applied on any PR server by PB.

Also shows if people get kicked or banned by our BF2cc auto admin and the reason.

Its quite handy as an admin tool.

I have seen people get banned on one server, then have seen them get the ban enforced when joining one of ours.

 

Apart from that it just clutters my screen up ..

AMan, representing the PR Dev's has already called it cheating - do we really need a month long discussion or another poll that's split 40/60 to make the decision?

 

IMO, the admin should make a decision on it.

No one could possible vote it not being a cheat...they can go back to BF2 if they want to play with that information. It was removed for a reason...a very good reason.

i've sent a pm to bahlye echoing what stabby has said above.

 

basically, this issue does not need a poll...at all. this is clear cut cheating and while it may not bother certain people, it's still obviously breaking the game mechanics for personal gain. seeing when you kill someone is not reality and is not needed. it's a bad ethos and bad sportsmanship.

 

i would hope other community elements can support this point of view.

 

 

if anyone can remember my blast from the past thread, when prmm was at version 0.2/0.3, a member from another bf2 community edited localisation files and hosted them for download. it took me at least a week to explain to GA admins why this was basically a cheat and have it all removed. it's 3 years later and it's still going on, which is sad.

just poor adminning from a vanilla perspective.

 

then even, on one particular gameops discretion, had the server at 15 second spawns. sharqi peninsula, 15 second spawns, accurate weapons and teams of saw gunners = good times...

 

funny thing is, that was the same gameop that thought edited localisation files was not a cheat.

no response. basically from what i can ascertain from in-game talk, this issue will be glossed over, kind of like if you don't talk about cheats then no one cheats.

 

like i said in my pm, the admin team are quick to shut down off-topic posts, remove feedback or give warnings and i just assume they are quick to shut down clear cases of cheating.

 

oh well, i hope if another pbss is taken and modified localisation files are seen, that those players will take a short holiday.

basically, perhaps you should of stepped up and posted something along the lines of;

Perhaps he's too busy to respond to every single PM he gets? Especially when there's already a thread about the topic? Being a father of very young children, as well as a member of a raucous clan can sap up alot of energy. I'm sure Darth and Rooter are either enjoying their christmas/new year break, or are as equally busy.

 

You seem to demand information about every single thing that the admin do. Why don't you sit back and relax a bit? Give it some time, and be patient. I'm sure they're working on it. If there's anything worth knowing, then they'll tell us, otherwise it hasn't been decided on yet.

 

Screen shots of cheating DO warrant an official response, and I'm sure the admin team is very much aware of that. However, because there are people like you in the community, who question every little thing that the admin team do, then they have to be careful with their response, to make sure that it's consistent across all admin. That means they have to deliberate and discuss.

 

Really, you're the type of person that's manufactured this necessity to have lengthy discussions behind closed doors to save the admin team a head ache. You've made their bed, now you have to lie in it.

Anyway, I wasn't attacking anyone, I just want to see some movement on this. The only official mention from Bahlye is about starting a poll on cheating, which is really not needed. This is probably one of the most serious things seen in this community, thanks to Noddy, and it's been dragging.

 

I'm betting that screenshot is old. I'm betting it's already been discussed the moment Noddy found the screenshot. I've now spoken to Noddy about it and as diplomatic as he was, it's still easy enough make wild assumptions based on low amounts of evidence. You know how good I am at that.

S.O.P for ADMIN ?

Simple fix.

I do have alot of things to do, and replying to this was about 4 th on the lists of things to do for the forums and servers today.

I GET ALOT of PM's..

Inbox contains 265 messages.

You have 454 messages stored, of a total 2000 allowed. (Empty Folder)

...and thats in the last 6 weeks since I deleted all my stored ones.

 

Yes it is a cheat as the Devs removed the kill messages for a reason ,and Ancientman has confirmed this, and is working on a way of preventing people using modded L files in PR.

 

this combined with the fact that quite a few admins are off doing Holiday type things or working makes it difficult for us all to be online at the same time to discuss the issue means that an instant on the spot decision is not something that will happen .

There have been 2-maybe 3 people in the last month or more that we have seen running the files, so its not as if there is a epidemic of people doing it.

And with a community of over 1000 members there have not been a huge amount of them that have replied to the topic as of yet.

 

And your (SOP) posts account for a fair percentage of the posts.

And frankly your attitude towards the admins does not make me rush to reply to every post you make.

Hell you gave me Neg rep just the other day in the mistaken belief I had known some random comments by you and others were going to be deleted.

I never got a reply from you regarding the PM I sent pointing out that was not the case btw..

 

Perhaps if you stop busting the admins balls all the time we might be more inclined to deal with your queries regarding things more quickly in the future?.

 

We are going to make a call on the Modded L files issue asap ,odds are we will say its a bannable offence as it is a cheat/unfair advantage that was specifically coded out of PR for a reason.
