Posted December 30, 200915 yr Does having high-ping visitors on the servers cause lag or in any way screw up low-pingers ? There have been numerous conversations in-game about it and I am wondering about the reality of the technical situation. With the ping-kick exemption now in force (?), there are some massive pings playing on the servers sometimes... "When you have to kill a man, it costs nothing to be polite." - Winston Churchill
December 30, 200915 yr I think it is just a household myth spouted in vanilla when someone got killed by an overseas player. The only way they screw us up is via playing dodgily (through having a high ping) or wasting assets. But there are awesome international players out there just the same as there are some real tards in Australia . http://i.imgur.com/DtNdckc.png [WC]Xavo|xXx:
December 30, 200915 yr I know that on Arma 2 GAU servers that high pingers cause problems such as dsync and players with normal low pings getting ping spikes, dunno if it would apply to PR GAU servers but what happens to one could happen to another ? http://www.users.on.net/~beljas/sigs/buzzard.png
December 30, 200915 yr No acegun that is because Arma has an incredibly shoddy netcode. Whilst BF2 has a surprisingly good one. One of it's strengths IMO. The reason the servers lag now is because they are still trying to get the hardware allocated properly at the server level. http://i.imgur.com/DtNdckc.png [WC]Xavo|xXx:
December 30, 200915 yr You may tend to die around corners and such as their hits aren't registered straight away.
December 30, 200915 yr I think that theres a higher content of tards coming from overseas servers because if a tard was to get banned from their local server, then they'll just go to international servers for the duration of their ban... Remember those pommy guys we had on ejod xavo? I thought its also because there is a requirement from PR dev that in hosting the beta 0.874 test server that there be no ping cap. Hence an influx of international players. http://www.bigdgaming.net/images/added/awards/spambot.bmp http://www.bigdgaming.net/images/added/awards/whatthe.bmp The Bee Zed Zed
December 30, 200915 yr haha, ive always done that. i can never tell the difference between kozelsk, fools road and... bugger. and the other one... , whats its name? y'know, the little one? anyway, i always remember whats on the map, like, is it full of trees, does it have a city thats surrounded by yellow sand. thats the problem. and shame about the post count xavo it was so awesome for a moment there, did you get a screenie? *OT - i like the ping kick on... but there is a bunch of foriegn players that are worthwhile... is the someway that foreigners dont get as many warnings as locals, or is that too insensitive...? DON'T YOU CLUCK WITH ME, BUDDY! ---------------------- After that night I started peeing out the window to avoid going down the hallway when it was dark.
December 30, 200915 yr http://www.bigdgaming.net/showpost.php?p=186480&postcount=263 and .... Here's a challenge for the enterprising young man.... Find some evidence that a high ping causes server lag... I'm still waiting..... and I too am getting pretty annoyed with people whom order people from the servers because of their ping... ETA: the topic Does having high-ping visitors on the servers cause lag Not does it affect gameplay or anything else... please Start your own thread about the merits or otherwise of the ping kick to discuss if you are so inclined. One last thing (had to do a bit of searching) and why I didn't delete the O/T post.... *OT - i like the ping kick on... but there is a bunch of foriegn players that are worthwhile... is the someway that foreigners dont get as many warnings as locals, or is that too insensitive...? In fact, from the top secret admin section.... Community members should be treated a little harsher then new players. They know better and cannot and should not use the "I didn't know the rules line" so don't let them slide. December 30, 200915 yr Wireless anteni on my house with 1024mb upload speed... should be special! wow 1gbps upload, that's awesome http://i235.photobucket.com/albums/ee94/psyrus_uraya/awards-1.png QFT: Your computer is smart man. December 30, 200915 yr No, I've read several articles talking about this subject and higher ping players will not 'lag' the server for lower ping players. The reason this has been coming up lately is because of the state of the GAU servers (server 2 having been greatly improved since initial launch). Higher ping players, like Floyd and Xavo said, may suffer adverse consequences with shooting or registering as being hit etc. I do remember another article about one particular game where players would lag themselves for an advantage. Or certain client-based prediction, as opposed to server-based makes it easier for aimbots. Xavo, I must dispute your comment about BF2 having good netcode. Have you not suffered dust of people's heads, the knife not working on snipers, missiles going through vehicles? 1942 and BFV had superior netcode, but not great 250+. If you want to see great netcode, play a UT based game, such as Red Orchestra. For example, I would never play BF2 overseas, having given up in the early PR days because I felt the experience was diluted. Playing RO overseas was easy and had minimal noticeable differences at 250+, you just lead your rifle shots a tad more. Note: Most of this post is taken from my hazy memory from several years ago. If you feel the need, please tear the points apart and correct them. I'm not passing this off as gospel so certain people need not take it like it is. TLDR: High-pinging players will create problems on bad netcode, usually found in much older technology. Server-based netcode is fine. http://imgur.com/e5y6e.gif You've already ruined these forums for me, I have no desire to read your rhetoric or the pathetic arguments you get yourself in to, or the personal vendetta you have against me, so please, do not talk to me. Ever. About anything.
December 30, 200915 yr Nah I wasn't trying to say that BF2 had the best netcode, it has surprisingly good netcode - yes (although you do get the occasional knife or shot dust or w/e) Certainly there are better games, but with 64 players on a server, and not having lag with vehicles and stuff running around is pretty good if you ask me. Especially if you've ever played ARMA or ARMA2, which has pretty poor netcode with desyncs and lag going on and whatnot although, again that could be due to the servers needing more resources or whatever but I'm no expert on that. http://i.imgur.com/DtNdckc.png [WC]Xavo|xXx:
