I'm not really feeling the massive google search right now, so my interim suggestion is to check the OCAU trading post, should have something there!

auspcmarket aren't as cheap as some, but are reliable.

Shopbot.com.au and staticice.com.au are your friends for finding cheap bits.

$104 @ MSY.

Pretty much the same as your old mobo but without "SLi" support (I'm pretty sure you can hack SLi support on mobo's these days :) )

If you don't need CrossFireX/SLi support then this board is $20 cheaper, $84

The chipset isn't as good the the top one, but unless your over-clocking you won't notice the difference

ok i've been looking around... and i think i've found something suitable

GA-MA785GM-US2H

@mobius - yeah im just going to be running a single XFX 8800GT so i wont need SLi ****

is there anything wrong with running nVidia cards on ATi chipsets? any loss?

i've decided to grab some extra ram (2x2GB Corsair 6400c4DHX, taking me to 6GB in total) and a raptor HDD while im at it.

anyone had/heard of dealings with pccasegear?? found everything i want at a price im willing to pay instock at this site

Corsair TWIN2X4096-6400C4DHX 4GB (2x2GB) DDR2 $98.00

Western Digital VelociRaptor WD1500HLFS $179.00

Gigabyte GA-MA785GM-US2H Motherboard $99.00

Sub-Total: $376.00

Standard Shipping: $15.00

GST Included: $35.55

Total: $391.00

for less than $60 more, you can get a g.skill SSD (64 gb) which will kick the pants off the velociraptor in anything performance-based (except you get the 1/3rd storage)

That sounds good Psyrus, was thinking of going that way for my next computer build but didn't think about it atm, was just grabbing a new HDD for the operating system, as I ripped apart all my other hard drivers deleting OS's and **** to stuff 1TB of data into 800GB of HDD space (got an external SATA case to access all my stuff from the laptop, but one of my 200GB HDDs was IDE).

found this one a G.Skill Falcon II 64GB at the same online shop as the others for $80 More but judging by reviews on speeds i can find the raptor gets 130mb/s burst (100mb/s avg.) read speeds and that G.Skill supposedly gets 220mb/s sustained, so i would assume it to be marginally quicker :) .

i think i can live with 64gb just for os/programs/games

now i just need to know if Pc Case Gear is reliable/trusted enough??

PCCASEGEAR

do recommend.

Not the cheapest but honest and good service quick delivery etc.

No problems running a different brand/chipset on ati or nvidia mb if a single card.

K, Order is placed, i think that should get me going again. Who knows when it will get here tho, with all these public holidays around

Thanks a heap Psyrus, JLycett, Noddy, Mobius and Fallen.

o, i forgot to ask, will i have any troubles installing operating systems onto that SSD? any weird hoops i need to jump through or should it just go like a SATA drive?

http://img534.imageshack.us/img534/6989/25156655.jpg

It goes up just like a SATA drive, but there are some things you can do to improve longevity and performance etc. You got the Falcon II right (second revision)? First one was good but the second one has some decent upgrades.

So much for PCCaseGear's reliability. just got home to find my order had arrived already, but they shipped the wrong motherboard, i would of been fine with it had it been a decent motherboard with all the things i needed, but no, its the cheapest motherboard on their site. :( not happy jan

complaint has already been sent

i can see how the poor little part picker man has gone wrong tho, the names on them are a close match, just the one i wanted had a couple of extra letters

let me guess, you got an M85M-US2H instead yeah? The one you mentioned is the one i was wanting to get from MSY but they were out of stock and i had to get the rig running that night.

apart from really crap placement of the SATA ports (plug in a dual slot card and you'll see what i mean) then its a pretty good little buy.
