Posted December 3, 200915 yr I "m thinking of upgrading my vid card & cpu to the latest.....whatever that is?...... but would like some advise on whether to do it now or is there a newer vid card comming out in Jan 10. I don't want to wait too long though. So I guess one of my questions is, is there a new generation card comming out very soon. If not which Vid card & cpu do I get,.... I may even need a new mother board. My current card is a Asus GTX275 896mb PCIe Budget......up to 2K Any thoughts would be apreciated Edited December 3, 200915 yr by Tunnel Rat http://i66.photobucket.com/albums/h258/oldozie123/50px-US_Army_E-5svg.png http://i66.photobucket.com/albums/h258/oldozie123/goodconduct.gifhttp://i66.photobucket.com/albums/h258/oldozie123/teamwork1.gifhttp://i66.photobucket.com/albums/h258/oldozie123/valour-1.gifhttp://i66.photobucket.com/albums/h258/oldozie123/OperationCrownRibbon02.jpghttp://bigdgaming.net/images/added/awards/opagamaserv.jpg http://i66.photobucket.com/albums/h258/oldozie123/ANZSig.png
December 3, 200915 yr Ati Radeon 5850/5870 are the way to go for GPU's, they're the best balance between cost and performance. As for CPU's, you're looking at the Intel i7 range, specifically the 900 series. I'll be upgrading to a 950 soon. Be aware that if you're upgrading to the latest CPU, you're more than likely also going to need to upgrade your motherboard. If you upgrade to the latest motherboard, you're more than likely going to need to upgrade your RAM. If you go to http://www.auspcmarket.com.au, check out the CPU/RAM/Motherboard combo's, they've got some good ones there, then just buy one of the video cards from the same place. Their prices aren't the best, but they're pretty good and they are the more professional of online stores. Gigabyte Motherboard + Intel i7 950 CPU + 6Gb Corsair RAM = $1400ish ATI Radeon 5850 = $400ish ATI Radeon 5870 = $600ish Edited December 3, 200915 yr by efgh146
December 3, 200915 yr ^Pretty much what he said, but Asus > Gigabyte So long as you have a Dx 11 compatible card you should be fine. Make sure you shop around for the best prices though you can usually save a fair bit even if you have to order from multiple stores. Wait do you need to get it built for you or are you going to put it together yourself? Edited December 3, 200915 yr by mrchickenfool
December 3, 200915 yr PCCG - or PC Case Gear is a pretty good and well known shop. A lot of people from Whirlpool by their parts from PCCG. Beware, the shipping is quite steep even for little items. [e.g ~$20 shipping for a tube of Arctic Silver or whatever that stuff you smear on the bottom of your CPU] http://i.imgur.com/DtNdckc.png [WC]Xavo|xXx:

December 3, 200915 yr http://www.msy.com.au/Parts/PARTS.pdf crappy website and service (apparently)..... http://i783.photobucket.com/albums/yy116/IINoddyII/aux1_zpsab5224fd.png

December 3, 200915 yr yeah been pricing up a system and using Netplus (Perth), Auspcmarket and PCGG, best i could get was around $3500. Pricing off MSY i could get the same system plus a 2nd gfx card and 2nd 24" lcd for $2800! There comes a time in every musician's life when they must decide what instrument they should master. Few. December 3, 200915 yr I upgraded today! I got a E8400 Core 2 Duo 4Gb's of DDR2 and an Asus P5Q-se2 - Cheapass solution. Beats the crap out of my old AMD 939 X2 chip. Was pretty cheap too (around 600NZD all up - about 470 in your guys money). Overclocked it this eve to 3.2 (pretty mild but i'm yet to get a better cooler). I think Core 2 represents best bang for buck at the moment - this is why I grabbed one. Edited December 3, 200915 yr by OrdeaL http://i.imgur.com/E1qdM.png
December 3, 200915 yr http://www.msy.com.au/Parts/PARTS.pdf crappy website and service (apparently)..... Crappest website ever but their stuff is way cheap. I saved loads buying all my new stuff from them. Plus having a nice guy like Evilrooter to help build saved me even more! http://img.photobucket.com/albums/0903/SirChuc/smokejumper3.jpg http://bigdgaming.net/images/added/awards/valorousunit.bmphttp://bigdgaming.net/images/added/awards/OperationCrownRibbon02.jpg Or as one of many thousands of Canadians have said, my guns are at the bottom of that lake. December 3, 200915 yr Slightly better version of the MSY parts list http://msy.arpatubes.net/ http://i235.photobucket.com/albums/ee94/psyrus_uraya/awards-1.png QFT: Your computer is smart man. It tells you not to play the second worst PR map [burning Sands] (first is Wanda Shan). QFT: if you dont get pissed off when you lose you dont care enough
December 3, 200915 yr Also, I have heard that MSY is notorious for not having the parts that you specifically desire. Best to try and ring or email them (although whether they'll answer/reply is another matter) before you go into the shop, or better yet have an alternative for every part in your list if you desperately need the components. http://i.imgur.com/DtNdckc.png [WC]Xavo|xXx:
December 4, 200915 yr Well MSY do not sell HD5870's, which is a shame. But there are stores online which sell them quite cheaply. There is currently a shortage on 5850/5870's however, and they are only expecting stock until after the Christmas period. Oh, and you may want to wait for Nvidia's new Fermi line, which should bump ATI prices down http://www.xbitlabs.com/news/video/display/20091118072139_Nvidia_Shows_Off_GeForce_Fermi_Graphics_Card_Rendering_DirectX_11_Benchmark.html http://www.nvidia.com/object/fermi_architecture.html Edited December 4, 200915 yr by LGN_Shadow http://www.bigdgaming.net/attachment.php?attachmentid=727&stc=1&d=1296346258 http://www.bigdgaming.net/attachment.php?attachmentid=724&stc=1&d=1296346251
December 4, 200915 yr I don't suppose anyone's got an adaptor for a 6-pin power connection to molex or something? I have my hd7570 but no way to connect it to the power supply in a case I bought. Also anyone with a spare dv monitor cable, borrow or rent for either (I don't need to take em back home)
