Posted October 20, 200915 yr Hello Bigd gaming community! my 1st post!! so i hope it hasn't already been asked on these forums! so my question is dose any body no how reliant games such as Bf2/PR Cod4 etc are on upload band with? the reason i ask is i am looking at an Internet plan which is in New Zealand for satraters....(woohoo) the plan consist off full speed down and 128kb up 15Gb of data for 50 bucks a month OR full speed down and full speed up 15 Gb of data for 60 bucks month LOL i no 10 bucks isn't a much but thats like 2 MC value meals or nearly a week petrol for me! ...i am a student only 16 and yes i am poor lol.... i really don't mind paying that extra 10 bucks a month for FS speed up but i don't really see the point of paying 120 bucks a year that isn't going to change any thing to do with gaming ...also i do not plan to upload torrents etc really just for downloading and gaming the ISP i am looking at is slingshot.. http://www.slingshot.co.nz/BroadbandPlans.aspx (sorry couldn't link it haven't had 5 post or more...i don't plan to spam..) or are there any NZ PR players out there who no of a beater ISP in new Zealand? PS my local line speed is 2mbs so when i say FS i mean 2mbs :S Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks =ANZF=Du$toff Edited October 20, 200915 yr by Sapper28
October 20, 200915 yr About time you posted Dust. Im not all that smart with this internet business and and dont know if games like BF2 and Cod4 are on a upload bandwith but if you willing to pay for the Full Speed Down/Full Speed Up for 60 Nz Buckies go for it. It'll Be usefull for TS/Mumble i imagine. There is a whole lot of techies that know they'r stuff on here so ill let them help you decide . October 20, 200915 yr BF2/PR used to be fine when I was on 512/128. Now that I'm on 2.5-4Mbps downstream (depending on the day and how much it's been raining) it sure does help with web browsing not screwing up gaming sessions though. October 20, 200915 yr If you are going to use BF2/Mumble/TS2 you will have problems on 128 up. http://www.clan-tea.com/sigs/flames/Poncho-Temp.png Orders starting with SOMEBODY usually wind up being completed by NOBODY.
October 20, 200915 yr you should go to www.gpforums.co.nz for nz related things. it where everyone goes. currently im on the bigtime plan for $60 a month and its just became good in the last month. pings are about 110 depending on location and other factors. should of seem it a few month ago with 500+ to aussie, but thats another story. bigtime plan is unlimited for people who like to download and if you have any issues with ping or gaming telecom will tell u straight up to move plans as this is not for gaming but currently it good. seem people pull in 500gb a month and the highest ive seen is 850+ gb!!!! speeds are good especially during the off peak time and as bl4ckie said if fs down and fs up or "as fast as your line can handle" from what telecom says as im only able to get FS adsl 1 speeds, 8mb down and 512kb up. bf2/pr on 128kb up is fine but having more upload cant really hurt as this will allow for other to surf the net while u play without causing too much lag or if you ever feel like hosting then the upload the btter. if you not that much of a heavy user and more of a gamer and light downloader then choosing something else other than bigtime will im prove ping alot. again go to www.gforums.co.nz and head to the internet & network section and read/place a post there they will point you into the right direction Edited October 20, 200915 yr by westom

October 22, 200915 yr I'm on Orcon, pretty happy with them (though about 1-2 times a year I can't connect on the BigD server for a few days). I used to play a lot of games with Jetstart 4-5 years back (256/128kpbs, back when Telecom was beating NZ up and stealing its lunch money), you won't have the best pings but stuff certainly will be playable. ~$35 a month for ADSL1, $2/GB - I think it's a bit cheaper than Slingshot and its "Pay as you go", though I use the more expensive ADSL2+ service (8mbps vs 16mbps). http://www.speedtest.net/result/599271073.png *Edit*: Oh yeah my BigD ping is usually between 70 and 120, I have interleaving on (about 12ms, crappy wires in the area).
