Posted October 18, 200915 yr Hey fellas, im doing an assignment, studying how the Labour Market has to many regulations and limitations applied to it. And i was just pondering, as to weather, any of you would be kind enough to provide me with and example of how the Industrial relations scheme affects you, wether it be good or bad. Thanks! If you require more information please ask! http://i574.photobucket.com/albums/ss187/Chanvlan/new_kit.jpg yeah but this is the internet' date=' you have to expect the unexpected or else you'll get caught out by things you should've expected but didn't. Its exactly like knowing about the stuff you dont know about, that way you know theres stuff you dont know so when you know what you dont know you can say "ah i knew that!"[/quote']
October 18, 200915 yr Industrial Relations. Interesting. I work for a large corporation and they basically don't give a crap about the employees. I am a casual and they have cut my hours to zero without telling me. I just find out on the roster when I check it. People moving to permanency are told they can't be a part of the union but it is in fact illegal to do so. I am a strong supporter of unions and a strong regulatory framework but working in a large corporation, they don't seem to care much. It is a conga-line of harassment all the way from the very top to the very bottom of the food-chain. There are some good people but I think that most folks are too scared of losing their jobs to say anything about perceived infractions of the legalities of Industrial Relations. October 18, 200915 yr The other side of the spectrum - I am a small business owner, and when I bought my business my employees were being paid under the award and not given their proper entitlements re: holidays and sick leave. So now they love me cause I gave them a payrise and sick days hehe. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
October 18, 200915 yr To be honest, I'm not all that familiar with IR law. I work for a small company and the directors are decent - pay is fine, working hours reasonably flexible and no problems arranging leave (other than my own apparent inability to apply for it). I don't particularly believe in the principle of unions but maybe that's because I haven't worked for a pack of pricks. If I were being treated unreasonably I'd quit and go elsewhere rather than go to yet another bureaucracy to whine on my behalf. October 18, 200915 yr In my field of work there is no industrial relations. It's all BS, they say be safe but safe is slow so they don't really mean it. Worksafe does not actually do anything. I have worked on bloody dangerous jobs and have seen worksafe around say fix this or that but not come back or investigate why one site has so many infractions and warning all the time. What they need to do is actually start dishing out fines so heavy that it forces everyone to work up to standard to be cost effective. As for regulations there are no set standards, the laws in construction are different than the rest of the work force which is crap. http://www.solidarity.net.au/16/abcc-campaign-hots-up-as-second-unionist-faces-jail/ http://www.abcc.gov.au/abcc/AboutUs/ ^^ A bloody lie. We are still fighting for safer work places and not actually getting them. Most building sites are not union and there is a major difference in safety but unfortunately those of us with bills to pay and not lucky enough to get onto a union site have no choice but to go and risk our lives unnecessarily to put food on the table and a roof over our heads. I as an example am the only one on my scaffold crew who actually hooks up and I get teased for it. It shouldn't be that way any longer and while the government agencies say it's an illegal work practice they really don't do a damn thing about it. http://cfmeu.asn.au/ I am a proud union member but I do have one thing about the CFMEU I can't stand out West and that is the communist crap I see....... They can shove that right up their bums. I think that is the North American in me though. I don't particularly believe in the principle of unions but maybe that's because I haven't worked for a pack of pricks. If I were being treated unreasonably I'd quit and go elsewhere rather than go to yet another bureaucracy to whine on my behalf. As a scaffolder I go out to so many job sites I see the massive difference in a Union site over a non union site. Unfortunately I work for Hays so do not get union pay nor do I often get the nice working conditions very often that should be the standard and it's a disgrace. Damn would I ever like to get on a full time union crew.
