Downloaded virus, windows wont startup, gets to windows loading screen then BSOD's. Same thing for safe mode.

Currently using latest ubuntu booting from cdrom. Trying to access HDD but comes up with error "Failed to mount: $Logfile indicates unclean shutdown..."

 

Any suggestions in how to access my HDD and retrieve files or am I goner?

When you hit F8 to pick an option have you tried last known working settings?

What version of windows ?

Tried booting off a install disc and "repairing" ?

yep, doesnt work.

 

windows xp 32bit, box they gave me years back doesnt come with windows install/recovery disk, could i try another computer's windows disk?

If it's the same version then yes (as in Professional/Home).

If you have a spare harddrive laying about, throw it on as master and your corrupted hdd on slave. You will be able to recover any files and possibly find the offender. This is only if you have a spare drive about.

as long as its xp yes may work

even xp home should be able to fix your bootsector if thats whats borked.

Business is for Vista, it should be either Home or Pro for XP.

I would have to burn it to cd or can i use usb?

 

Tried repairing with a xp professional cd but it just sends me to to a console starting at C:\Windows> dunno what to do from there

Umm.. you MIGHT be able to get it to work from a usb.. But its designed to be burnt to a CD

Got the repair working will have to wait till it finishes reinstalling

Goddamn it wants a product key, anyone have spare?

 

Yeah looks like this repair option is not gonna work cause I dont have the original product key which was used to install

ok I'm back in with a 30 day trial. I'll probably cut and run and copy all important stuff to an external HDD and ''upgrade'' to windows 7
