September 30, 200915 yr Shure SRH440 - Probably the best sub-$200 closed headphones around, build quality, sound quality and comfort all outdo the other closed alternatives. If you need a closed headphone and have less than $200 to spend, get these, don't bother with the rest! Do they have to be closed? Do you need the noise cancelling properties? If so, looks like you have picked the best. Edit: Just did some searching over at head-fi, they are recommended for a lower priced model. September 30, 200915 yr Author yeah closed, dont need noise cancelling at all, from exp, the better built sets have a pretty good "natural" reduction of noise anyway. though it is said that being closed can/will distort sound at a higher volume. havent noticed to date. :(When swimming in sh!t, best keep your chin up! http://i267.photobucket.com/albums/ii300/3D_Gimp/bDSig2014_zpsbfe88bfb.png
September 30, 200915 yr Noice cancelling is one of the benefits of having closed. As in, you can't hear anything from outside, and no sound leaks from your cans to others. For me, Open is better, slightly warmer and I can hear the kids crying when my wife is away. Closed do have the boomy bass though, which is better in some types of music. I had some Senn closed and dance music would really shine, if you like the heavy, heavy bass. http://headphones.com.au/blog/open-vs-closed-headphones Notice in that explanation, Open headphones have a better soundstage, which is better for positional in gaming. http://imgur.com/e5y6e.gif You've already ruined these forums for me, I have no desire to read your rhetoric or the pathetic arguments you get yourself in to, or the personal vendetta you have against me, so please, do not talk to me. September 30, 200915 yr I currently have the Sennheiser PC-151, closed-back ear capsules to reduce background interference. Not much I can say about them but if you are looking for a good music and gaming headset these are a def look at. http://www.shopbot.com.au/pp-sennheiser-pc-151-price-55767.html http://i159.photobucket.com/albums/t136/varan92/sc_ii_2.png

Its versatile, and flexible in its attachment and space saving, you can take it anywhere and its tiny. I use some cable tie to organise the slack. Also I used to have it permantely wound around and cable tied to my headphones, but this wasnt ideal as my headphone output is on an amp sitting above the computer...so the distance between the mic in and phones out is too large, if theyre together it would be ok. You wont break it dropping it (its too light). But the damage you will do to it is because youve walked of with it attached, or gotten involved with the cable and pulled that. Imo, thats the weakest part the cabling is single coated and fairly weak. As for cans. I do some studio work and thus have invested in pair of Beyer Dynamic 770pros, closed back. Theyre very good. I would need to perforate my ear drums before i loaded the diaphragms with distortion (and they cost too much $$$ to do f**k them like that -$289). they arent however ideal for gaming, as they are really meant to isolate sound from the studio environment, not pwning newbs in pr. also i cant hear a thing externally with them on, unless there are no dBs piping through...phone call? nup, knock at the door? nup..etc... I would recommend open backs, as they have a more natural sound with nice air displacement. bit cooler and lighter on the head too. ive always liked senheisser. the just do such a nice job, ive an old pair from early 90s that still beat your average competition. If your looking for less than $200, maybe have a look at the akg open back models 141's, 121's (maybe on special/online for good $). But moreover, go into your hifi store and have a listen to some reference cd's or maybe burn stereo wavs of your favourite ak47 snap onto a cd and judge for yourself. better to buy happy and sure say no to fostexs, they are s**t in my opinion also, i cant comment on shure, they make great mics, but i dont know about their headphones - havnt had a proper listen to any Edited October 1, 200915 yr by Hambang101 http://www.bigdgaming.net/images/added/awards/spambot.bmp http://www.bigdgaming.net/images/added/awards/whatthe.bmp The Bee Zed Zed

October 1, 200915 yr i would say you have seen it, but this thread does get newer buyers started as to what is out there in headphone land. this link not necessarily aimed at you, but others that might be after some decent cans. http://headphones.com.au/forums/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=7 http://imgur.com/e5y6e.gif You've already ruined these forums for me, I have no desire to read your rhetoric or the pathetic arguments you get yourself in to, or the personal vendetta you have against me, so please, do not talk to me. October 1, 200915 yr Author XLNT, thanks peoples. I have been looking at these for a month or two, I think im gonna stick to the Shure 440's. They do seem to be the absolute best for the price. SOP, sall good mate, I've limited myself to $200AU, and to be on par with or surpass other cans that fair the full $200, its just not logical. So for now, ill wait another week or so...... ... . :(When swimming in sh!t, best keep your chin up! http://i267.photobucket.com/albums/ii300/3D_Gimp/bDSig2014_zpsbfe88bfb.png
