Posted September 28, 200915 yr Graphics/Motherboard...stuff. . Help So i got a new graphics card to replace a Nvidia GeForce 8500GT PCI-E 512MB with a broken fan on it. Also got a new game called Aion which needs a very good graphics card.... etc After installing the latest drivers for my new card, started playing PR and noticing that my game would freeze, in fact the whole computer would freeze, cant even talk on mumble. At the current moment.. My Graphics Card is a GeForce 9600GT 512MB GDDR3 My Motherboard is an ASRock ConRoe1333-GLAN This computer is about 2 years old and we did one of those "get a new computer and pick all the Stuff we want in it" things. (in my words) We got all the latest stuff we could for back then. Which was the 8500gt and the motherboard i still currently have. The freezes seem to only occur with BF2, havent had any trouble with other games. I have my BF2 settings at 1024x768 60hertz, everything else medium and x4 Anti Aliasing. I even tried it on 800x600 and it still froze. Its not a major problem, i can still play just have no idea when it will freeze on me. So, any solutions? Just really want to know what options i have. EDIT: i am running Windows XP , Daddy dont like Vista O.o Edited September 28, 200915 yr by LeClair
September 28, 200915 yr Re: Graphics/Motherboard...stuff. . Help It freezes for like 1-3 seconds and then continues as if nothing was wrong..? I have that happening on my computer currently, also a Nvidia card and it's really annoying. I've done HDD monitoring because it seemed like an IO interrupt that was waiting on something else (and thus stopping everything else) but my disk queue only went up to ~4 items when it was happening and I'm quite sure much more can be handled, it was probably a byproduct of the issue. I'm thinking the latest set of Nvidia drivers is dodgy, but I can't find older ones for Win7 http://i235.photobucket.com/albums/ee94/psyrus_uraya/awards-1.png QFT: Your computer is smart man. It tells you not to play the second worst PR map [burning Sands] (first is Wanda Shan). QFT: if you dont get pissed off when you lose you dont care enough
September 28, 200915 yr Re: Graphics/Motherboard...stuff. . Help what happened to me when i installed my new card... Dunno wtf caused it but seems to have sorted itself out now and only reoccurs when I overclock.. was for all games though, not just bf2 http://i.imgur.com/zoL1k.png
September 28, 200915 yr Re: Graphics/Motherboard...stuff. . Help Dont know if you have done this already but did you do a complete nvidia driver unistall when changing cards? Sometimes the drivers that are up-to-date conflict with the card as the card may have a few previous versions. So best bet would be full nvidia uninstall, reboot reinstall drivers on the disc that came with your new card then reboot then download most recent (stable) drivers off nvidia site. http://i159.photobucket.com/albums/t136/varan92/sc_ii_2.png
September 28, 200915 yr Author Re: Graphics/Motherboard...stuff. . Help No it doesnt freeze for 1-3 seconds, it freezes for good, after a while all the colours go wierd and the terrain stays the same while any other thing turns black then its still stuck, so all i can see is just the colour of the terrain. And Tyla , i dont trust myself doing that, ill leave that up to my father so he takes the blame if it screws up lol. Ive screwed up a perfectly new graphics card before, Accidently set the herts too high for the screen and came up with a big red "OUT OF RANGE" those words scare me now .......
September 28, 200915 yr Re: Graphics/Motherboard...stuff. . Help Use driver cleaner http://downloads.guru3d.com/download.php?det=745 to get rid of all trace of the old Nvidia drivers. Install the latest drivers for your card/os Also make sure you clear out the BF2 shader cache if you arent reinstalling BF2/PR ---> My Documents/Battlefield 2/Mods/bf2/cache <-- delete the contents of the cache folder If it still plays up after that I'd try a reinstall of BF2/PR http://img234.imageshack.us/img234/645/rx2yg8.jpg http://bigdgaming.net/images/added/awards/valorousunit.bmp http://cache.www.gametracker.com/server_info/203.14.173.90:19577/b_350x20_C692108-381007-FFFFFF-000000.png

October 1, 200915 yr Author Re: Graphics/Motherboard...stuff. . Help after many googles, it seems to be a fault in the latest set of drivers for both 9600 and 9800 or a fault in the video card. Many people are saying its the drivers though. guess im waiting for another driver to come out to see if that fixes it

October 3, 200915 yr Re: Graphics/Motherboard...stuff. . Help http://downloads.guru3d.com/Driver-Sweeper-beta-2.0.0-download-2186.html http://downloads.guru3d.com/Videocards---NVIDIA-GeForce-(XP-32-bit)_c10.html use sweaper to clean out your old gfx drivers then install an older version of nvidia drivers , probably start at 185.85 whql and see if that get ride of your problem. Make sure system restore is on and jump forward in drivers till you get the problem again then go back to the last set that didnt muck up. Then you will have the latest bestest nonmucking up drivers . :hi:

October 5, 200915 yr Re: Graphics/Motherboard...stuff. . Help sounds like you may have deleted your motherboard drivers. try booting and pressing F8 just after the bios self test has finished for the windows options and go with "Start with last options that worked " or something like that. Should get you back to where you were before sweaper cleaned stuff. :hi:
October 5, 200915 yr Author Re: Graphics/Motherboard...stuff. . Help motherboard has no graphics already tried last known best settings. Safe mode only comes up with lines of writting And what i did was removed the Nvidia Drivers as the sweeper intructions said, then it after doing that the instructions said to restart in safe mode, run the sweeper then redownload and for some reason safe mode doesnt work. im pretty sure the techs can restore it. all i removed was the drivers which in doing so the screen just stays black after the "WindowsXP" loading screen.
October 6, 200915 yr Author Re: Graphics/Motherboard...stuff. . Help i got it fixed but still bf2 freezes. it freezes for about 3 seconds then i can actually Ctrl Alt Delete but i have no mouse and cannot press E to End Task could it be a problem with bf2 not being able to recover after the freeze cuz its an older game? should i just try a full uninstall of bf2. like take everything even the stuff thats left after the uninstall (cept the patches, not redownloading them) ??
