I've got a Linksys WAG54G V3 wireless modem router that I've always believed to be secure but we got a new laptop the other week and my missus says she didn't have to inout a password to connect to the network.

In my wireless config under wireless security it has security mode:

Disable

WPA Pre-shared key

WPA RADIUS

WEP

If I select the first and input a password the laptop doesn't work. I can put the password in when I put connect via the lappy but the internet doesn't actually work afterwards.

What am I doing wrong? Am I meant to select one of the others?

you want WPA PSK or TKIP or WPA2 if you have it available on all your nodes.

Also a handy hint is to disable SSID broadcast, which is your actual network name, so adds another layer of security right there for you.

You're all wrong, and I am always right, and the sooner you accept it, the happier you will be. That is all!
