Well got my new PC up and stable (had tried Win7 x64 then went to Vista x64 due to driver support). Issue is I cannot load up any PR map - consistently gets to either 14 or 15% then just sits there. Have to ctrl-alt-del - start task man then kill it.

Tried using windowed mode to see whether any error but nothing.

I also have a wierd glitch where loading BF2 only shows about 5 secs of the load movie then exits back to desktop. Can get nto BF2 and load intoa map if I move the intro movie out of the way, but I did have it crach back to desktop after I existed the map and was back in the server list screen.

Complete OS reinstall - will try the WinXP SP2 mode tonight, possibly CPU affinity also? Will also try lower graphics settings to check?

Allllllooonnnggggg time ago a mate of mine had to set his CPU affinity when playing bf2 on an AMD x2 4400 939 Socket machine.

If all else fails mate, just send me your machine I'll happily cover postage and um will get back to you in oohhh about 6 months time with an answer. Cool?? :p :P :p

Make sure when you install BF2, PR and any patches, you are right clicking and running as an admin, and also run the game as an admin.

Since your BF2 isn't even making it into a game (verify by trying to create a local server, if it still crashes then your install messed up, otherwise its a patching issue).

- Uninstall BF2 [& make sure your /Prog files/ea games/battlefield 2/ folder is deleted, as well as your mydocs/battlefield 2/ is deleted]

- Install your BF2

- Install the 1.41 patch (freezone)

- Install PR 0.86 Core (freezone)

- Install PR 0.86 Levels (freezone)

I was having horrible CTD issues with 0.86, uninstalled everything, restarted PC and started again from scratch and I haven't had a single CTD issue since :)

Hope that helps Gazza.

Also, I read somewhere that people were having issues with the 190.xx series of drivers, try some of the older ones:

QFT: Your computer is smart man. It tells you not to play the second worst PR map [burning Sands] (first is Wanda Shan).

Some feedback - Seems an uninstall of PR / BF2 and reinstall has fixed this - BIT STRANGE, anyway happy now! Perhaps there was some disk corruption with a some of the files? Thanks Psyrus to pointing me this way!

Had a bit of a hiccup where BF2 install did not want to read Disk 2 either ..PANIC.. but manged to take an image of it and used it successfully.

I can now run PR on Vista x64 using my own user (an admin user) and without needing compatability mode or CPU affinity or anything like that. Pretty easy really. See you in game, once I get some points back from the family for spending so much time on my computer - trying to get it to work!

I have come to realise with PR 0.86 release is that the .net files it installs causes the crashes, you need to reinstall the lot again including BF2 after you have done it once and it works fine, the second time round doesnt install the .net files
