Hey guys I got a general question,

I'm currently building my first computer. I have everything from my old computer and I'm slowly upgrading.

Now I require 4 Components GPU, RAM, MOBO & CPU

Now I have a GPU which I installed on my current computer just until I get what I need for my newer one; the GPU specs are:

GeForce 9500GT

Core Clock - 550MHz

Shader clock - 1375MHz

Memory clock - 333MHz

128-bit & 1Gig memory (I'm not hardware savvy)

Now I believe that this GPU is fairly ok, feel free to object.

RAM: I currently have 3Gig. Two 1 gig sticks and two 512 (naughty I know.)

which I will be upgrading not sure what I'm getting yet.

Onto the Mobo my current one is heavily out-dated Asrock Conroe-1333

Now I went to my computer store and they suggested a single PCI-slot ASUS (unaware of the model number but it's a new one.) Now with it only have one PCI slot do you think it will really affect me? I play loads of different games that require high specs. Lets just say is it possible to run Crysis on all high with a single GPU?

Last but not least CPU. I have been searching eBay and online computer stores. And good 'ol eBay was selling a Core 2 Duo 3.33GHz for a reasonable price. So mostly everything that I need now costs around $700 so if anyone has any input on this please voice your opinion.

Also I bench marked GTAIV on my current and the results showed

23% GPU

54% RAM

98% CPU

The max I got was 26 frames on everything set low. So is this a cause of my CPU being 2.4GHz? Cause the new GPU shouldn't be a problem right?

Thanks guiz

CPUs these days are a lot more than just their GHz rating. What is your old CPU?

With regards to your mobo, that PCI slot your referring to, i take it you mean the PCIX slot your GFX card goes in yeah? Crysis on high with a single GPX card, well i'd suggest you'd be looking at a nVidia GX295 or an ATI 4xxxX2 series, basically two GPUs running SLI/Crossfire on the same card. Having said that tho, what resolution will you be wanting to play at? Here is a link to the Tom's Hardware graphics chart for 3rd quarter 08 (they dont have Crysis listed as a game in the 09 charts)

Pretty much maxed out everything chart

Personally i'd avoid buying anything electronic off eBay but thats just me. My mate does it all the time and has no probs so maybe i'm just pessimistic (o:

And looking downwards from that perspective, performance like shown today would be laughed at.

For those that don't want to break the bank and game at lower resolutions the GeForce 9500 GT is a sure to play the current game titles, but you'll have to keep an eye on the settings as to reach smooth frame rates you'll have to tone it back to medium in some games.

While I would still personally recommend spending the extra money on a 9600 GSO or 9600 GT so that you could really do a bit of serious gaming, the bottom line is if you’re looking for something that’s cheap and is just going to put a good picture on your TV, then the POV 9500 GT is a hard card to pass up.

A 9600GT is the absolute minimum, especially if you're not being gifted the system. A HD4770 would fare well too, which can be crossfired to perform higher than 4890s in some instances.

So... do you want a build recommendation or what, I'm not really sure what you were asking from your post?

Ok thanks for pointing that out fellas.

And yes I would like a build recommendation please. As I am a newb for hardware & I know the shop that I go too, if you don't know much every bastard will try and rip ya.

For a cool G you could probably get a new i7 processor moboard and an ATI HD4870 if you look online

Well cheapest option is overclock that cpu and get a gtx275 or hd4890 for around $260- 330.

That mb has dual channel ram so make sure that they are matched in pairs.

ie dimm slot 1,2,3,4 should have 1g,512,1g,512 or 512,1g,512,1g .

each colour is (usually check your manual) a set (a and b) also for stability the slowest pair should start in the first slot as this will be seen by the mb as how fast it runs both sets. You can run ram slower without problems but faster can have issues.

Since your mb only supports 4gb ddr2 buying a new 4g set of matched ram doesnt seem good value. If you get a new mb soon youll be using ddr3 so it would be a waste to get more just yet.

I suggest u try with a better gfx card first and see if that gets you to were you want to be . nothing lost as if you still want more umph then you get a new cpu and mb and ram. the gfx card will be good for that as well.

hope that helps a bit.

Hey guys thanks for the input but after getting my Tax back I thought bugger it I'll buy a new system, these are my new specs:

HDD: Samsung 1TB

Case: HAF 932

Optical: Samsung 22x DVDRW

CPU: Core i7 920 2.66GHz

RAM: Corsair x3 1Gb DDR3 1600Mhz

Mobo: ASUS X58, P6T, 1366

GPU: Gigbyte GF GTX 285, 1Gb RAM, DDR3 512-bit 2400Mhz

PSU: Thermaltake 650W

Total Inc. Delivery: $1,889.81

So whats the best OS to put on this? Im thinking about getting a 64bit but XP or Vista?

Will take PSU be powerful enough? I know if you don't have enough power to your computer things can go bang :/
