Umm yeh i had medium and high graphics settings on before, running windowed at 11250 x something resolution 60hz

and sometimes when flying, and un-fogging a new area of the map i would have a 1-2 second lag spike (which is not good when flying) I recently moved all my settings down to low, but with same res and same view distance, lags better but graphics look bad :( i can run other games well on my rig but PR is a lil bit buggy (with PB and all)

Umm... otherwise...

Yeh great servers, thanks for having me -

Oh also can't run fraps- get kicked, dont have the latest vers. just the *cough* *cough* vers off youtube....

8600GT and 2gb of ram are pretty low spec on PR, so expect to experience low FPS with the game, although a quad core is nice :)

If you want to see your FPS in-game, type

renderer.drawFps 1 in the console (~) and it'll show your FPS at teh top right of your screen. You want > 30FPS at all times preferably, adjust your settings down to achieve that average.

When you say

PR is a lil bit buggy (with PB and all)

What do you mean?

In regards to fraps, it's a good program, and well worth the $50 for lifetime updates, however things like Xfire and some weird other recording programs perform very similar functions, try them out.

QFT: Your computer is smart man. It tells you not to play the second worst PR map [burning Sands] (first is Wanda Shan).

QFT: if you dont get pissed off when you lose you dont care enough

Vista + PR honestly I would recommend just paying the $40 to get 4gb of ram and be done with it, great investment IMO

Try only turning down shadows. I had this game running on my old 939 socket 3500 with a 7900gs and 2gb ram on full. Res was only 1280 x 1024 tho.

Of course 4 gb of ram won't hurt..

“No point in mentioning these bats, I thought. Poor bastard will see them soon enough.”

Raoul Duke.

Similar system to mine ^ and ran well. From memory, just changing textures to low will free up a bit of video ram. Try to keep shadows on, the game isn't reality without them.

Running XP though, and I disabled all the unnecessary services.

Have you defragged?

Agreed +100.

The 128 bit 8600 coupled with 32 bit Vista/ 2GB is a bad combination sorry to say...

PR likes VRAM, and lots of it....or bandwidth.

Also do a chkdsk and perhaps see how it runs with your AV/Firewall prog (if used) turned off. I have had problem that chkdsk fixes up and also sometimes Zonealarm will lose the plot. Think you need to make sure you clear the following folder after changing any graphics settings. Clear anything from within

C:\Documents and Settings\Gary\My Documents\Battlefield 2\mods\bf2\cache

Hay guys.

Yeh i got my PC a while ago 2+ years ago as a standard computer from a retail store... yeah not the best :D will hopefully look to upgrade. Ram would be very nice :D Yeh im now running on low as i stated before (i think) No lag now :D heaps of fun. And by buggy (PB) i mean Punkbuster being over cautious, geting kicked for std_archive.md5 errors on training Kashan only. and everynow and then geting a memory error and totaly crashing PR when loading Kashan. Otherwise all sweet. Oh and can't really re-install because i lost BF2 disc 1 a while ago, running off the special forces update disc :( no idea where that went to..... hmm anyway- 0.86 coming out soon :D

have fragged. think i should vacuum the fans though, alot a dusk build up there and havent done it in a while.

Thanks for the replies

Make sure you stick a pencil or something through the fans before vacuuming them, to prevent them from spinning too fast [in this case at all] and messing up the bearings.

Without trying to sound mean, the 8600 is one of the worst performing cards nVidia has produced. It has a very poor reputation.

Also I noticed your drivers are rather old - from January 2008. You may want to update them.

The latest Beta drivers are 186.08

btw if you have a legit cd key, you can find the BF2 disc at all usual outlets on the net.....

I think you could buy a copy for cheap too. Maybe $20 or so?

Second that. I had a computer without a DVD drive for a while, downloaded the image, mounted with Daemon Tools and away I went. Have never used the discs since.

UPDATE UPDATE UPDATE:

I'm going to be getting a upgrade for xmas this year.

Hopefully a ram and graphics upgrade.

But heres the problem. Ive already got 2gb ram, and space for 2 more gig i think, but if i upgrade to 4gb ram apparently i have to go 64 bit. my current config is vista ultimate 32bit but i just bought Windows 7 ultimate upgrade. so can i go 64bit or do i have to go 3gb ram and 32bit.

And the graphics card. Any ideas for an upgrade. I think we'll be doing our purchasing from Umart and get them to install.

Thanks

http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/258528-30-explained

In summary a 32 bit OS can only access a total of 4gb of memory. This includes any main memory and gpu memory...

So essentially anything above 3 gb on a 32bit OS is probably a waste - but due to the fact RAM is cheap you're best going with 4gb anyhow in the event you decide to go down the x64 path in the future.

http://i783.photobucket.com/albums/yy116/IINoddyII/aux1_zpsab5224fd.png

And that it's time for 32bit to die... I have no idea why anyone would purchase a x86 OS when pretty much every CPU sold since 06 has been x64

Intel Atom comes in x64 as well

(but yes you're right, earlier atom/amd models were x86, although netbooks are just glorified tablets in this poster's opinion. )
