Hey guys, just bought my Plantronics 367 headset (its totally awsome, love the new sound quality) HOWEVER, at the same time I foolishly bought a Creative Soundblaster X-Fi Xtreme Audio, unaware that 5 years after BF2 has been released this card doesn't even support Creative-Xfi sounds in BF2 nor does it support Ultra high sound settings. Fan-bloody-tastic.

On Tuesday I am going in there after consulting Umart to swap it out for a better sound-card. I am going to get the Creative Soundblaster X-Fi Xtreme Gamer so hopefully this will support the high sound settings. Does anyone else have this sound card and does it support the top quality sound setting in BF2? Atm I am very, very angry at wasting money on a card that my motherboard's audio can do just as good as. Does this card actually have an X-Fi chipset, unlike the Xtreme Audio which emulates it, or am i wasting my time...again.

I had an Auzentech in my last build and it was awesum. Auzentech and asus are doing x-fi cards that seem from internet reviews to be better than creative atm.

:hi:

I used to have a creative card. Bluescreened my pc.

I think Gamer and Music are the ones you want. From memory. Which is quite shoddy at times.

Googling it should sort you out.

Personally, I would never buy a Creative card again after their whole Vista debacle, but that's just me.

As I mentioned in the other thread, there are some nice non-Creative cards with even headphone amps built into them that may be worth checking out.

EAX isn't worth it if it's a price premium. I still run it on my old Audigy 2 but the sounds are just like being in the bottom of a barrel if you are indoors.

Creative-Xfi sounds

I assume you are referring to EAX support. The card you bought only emulates it through software.

BF2 sounds all muddy correct ?

All you can do is either turn off EAX or hope that Umart will let you exchange it for the XtremeGamer which acording to the specs sheet has

---> "Take reality to the next level with EAX® ADVANCED HD™ "

I <3 my old audigy4 it cost me bugger all and has EAX on board, BF2 sounds awful without proper sound support

Edit: Really SOP I've tried a few different cards as well as two different onboards and nothing even comes close for me. I also seem to be able to hear alot of things that others cannot <--- could just be me hearing things too :p

That isn't EAX giving you the positional. EAX is environmental audio effects. You would know the sound when you cross the threshold of a door and hear gunfire from within and out. All it does is dull and echo the sounds inside.

Try BF2 without EAX, you will still hear the same stuff, with the same positional (bar the muddied sounds indoors). What you are probably hearing from soundcard to soundcard is a difference of the opamps on the DAC that each card/onboard use. My Audigy's sound is much better than onboard, that's for sure.

Chief should look at Xonar Essence STX, supposedly much better, and changeable opamps, DAC and a headphone amp to boot.

But I know what you are saying. A good headphone, a decent soundcard with EAX or without and often I find I'm hearing things better than squad mates around me. I have noticed when we squad up that you often hear the same things as I do. What headphones do you have again, if any?

had a set of icemat's which were really comfy and worked well now I'm using the crappy creative fatality ones ( I really wish I bought the zalmans :( ). I only buy the middle of the range as all I use them for is gaming. Music should be played on proper speakers.

Last week I picked up an Xonar DX pcie 2nd hand for $50 with the intention of seeing how the emulation goes in win7 & Vista 64, as the Audigy fails hard with Vista. Will let you know how it goes whe I get around to it

I have a X-Fi Platinum and it makes BF2 sound beautiful, however I've always had sound glitches in PR. For example always being able to hear waterfalls as if they are right next to me regardless of where I am. Had the same problems in Eve of Destruction 2.

mouse is wireless yeh?

creative SB Live was a great great card, had to ditch it tho with the new computer as my X1950XTX took up both expansion slots. onboard isn't too bad but really want to try out the Xonar myself as all reviews i've read on it rave it big time!

There comes a time in every musician's life when they must decide what instrument they should master. Few. If any are ever worthy enough to master. The cowbell.

*Edit* DISREGARD THIS *Read 2 posts bellow*

I have the Asus Xonar DX, it seems like a very good card but it doesn't seems to like BF2.

I can turn EAX on and put it at maximum settings and the sounds are really good however I get this sort of clicky sound like the audio is breaking up every now and than, seems to be when I reload or something, hear it less if the settings are down a bit.

I can't recall having the issue when doing anything else tho so I am guessing it just doesn't like how BF2 gets it to process audio. I would like to see someone else's experience with it cause if this isn't normal I will be getting it replaced.

I have a Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi XtremeGamer Fatal1ty Pro. It kicks ass. Has full bf2 sounds support (ultra high, EAX etc...).

HELLO ALL

I lied to you, I forgot to turn on the Game/DS3D GX 2.0 settings for my sound card which make it emulate EAX Audio.

Once I did that (Yes, I have had it setup wrong since I bought it) PR sounds absoloutly spanking !

I highly recommend the Asus Xonar DX to anyone that wants a high quality EAX/Hardware Support sound card.

*Tip, check it fits on your Mobo, I replaced my Mobo to get this sound card on as the ram got in the way on my previous one*
